Used to read a lot of Stephen King. Never read the uncut version of The Stand, but I read the original abridged version. I did read It in its entirety, though. Amazon lists 1152 pages for It.

Started in on that rambling jillion wasted pages of tennis and mary jane known as... Trying to recall the name... Infinite Jest. I quit after 200 or 300 pages. I enjoyed reading Atlas Shrugged although I didn't get into the whole idealism facet of it.

It really isn't that many.

12 or so characters who have any importance. You have 900 pages to get familiar with them

I tried reading Lewis Sinclair's 'Babbit' but the main character is so bitchy that it is annoying at hell. I will give it a chance though.

It really isn't that many.

and then there's like 200 other names that are randomly referenced throughout the novel. Good book though, I just started rereading it yesterday

I read the Oxford Dictionary of English cover to cover this past summer. It's a bit over 2,100 pages. The longest work of fiction I've read is probably the King James Version of the Bible. Is that longer than the Stand? (It's a lot scarier, that's for sure.)
