Be honest. And acquired by finders keepers means, not the water fountain or some kind of business crime like stealing from the donut/coffee jar.

I think it was 140. It was 7 20s folded pretty tightly in a bar. Was pretty crowded and I just happened to look down, see it, grab it and act like nothing happened.

About $1300 in cash.
I was on a refinery shut-down job many years ago, working with a crew from back east. We were loading catalyst into one of the towers. While we were waiting to get started, I was wandering around, looking at the various types of catalyst that had to be hoisted, and I noticed something on the ground...it was a money clip FULL of cash.
I stuck it in my pocket and went to talk to the foreman of the crew. Of course, it was his...but he could identify the money clip and told me to within a few dollars how much was in it...so I gave it back to him.
Part of me would have loved to keep my mouth shut and keep the money...but it wasn't the right thing to do... These guys were all travelers, and the loss of that much cash would have been quite a hardship...the foreman to whom the money belonged...had a wife and several kids back in "Looseyana."
<sigh> Ethics can be SUCH a burden sometimes...:p

$40. I'm pretty good at finding money though, and have found amounts up to $20 on numerous occasions.

I used to work at a formal wear store while I went to college. When we got the used tuxedos back there would often be items still in the pockets. We'd always turn important items like wallets, credit cards, and IDs in to our managers, but loose cash we always kept for ourselves. We figured that our bosses would just keep it and claim nothing was found if we turned it in (we had people on the sales floor tell us that was exactly what they did in most cases).

Long story short, I found $160 in rolled up 20s and 10s once. That's the most I ever found. If I found that money these days, I'd probably turn it in to someone out of "principal". It's funny how not being in the state of wondering how you're going to cover your next rent and/or utility bill does great things for your "principals".

$22 or something, and I was about 13 years old. Riding my bike down the road, found a purse with nothing else but $22 in it.

I haven't found money lying on the ground in a long time. I'm about due.

$340 at a Target parking lot in Atlanta 12 years ago, just a bunch of folded bills with a rubber band around them.

Found a fiddy dollar bill once in grade school. A kid saw me pick it up and put it in my pocket and told the teacher. Had to give it up. Some 20 years later, I still want to powerbomb that kid on a table.

Imagine if you put that 50 dollar bill and bought a single share of something good.

24 years ago I found an 1845 sovereign gold coin at a long decommissioned garbage dump (prior to that it was a ship yard), and I figured it may have worth at least $500 (I think my little sister stole it to buy drugs and alcohol).

It was either $1450 or 1850 when I was a lot attendant at a grocery store. I turned it in because I thought it was someone's vacation money and I didn't want to ruin their vacation. The owner was found using the IDs that I found at the same time, but the owner lied and said I stole a few hundred out of it. I was so pissed off that I decided then and there I would never turn anything else in again.

Sadly, I haven't found anything except small bills and stuff since then.

I sometimes find money left by customers in the vehicles at work. Usually just change. Maybe a $2 coin. Scored $10 last week tough. Was spent on pop and slushies. Good times.

In the bad old days, I used to work for Avis rent a car. I was a young kid who ran their service department. We often used to get pick up orders in the summer time for cars that the renters were too lazy to return to the rental office. I got a pick up order one fine summer day and hopped in a car with a buddy to reclaim the car.

Now, until this day, I ALWAYS checked under the seat and in the trunk to see if the renter had left anything. But, this day, I was hot and in a hurry to get back to the service station about 10 miles away.

Well, just as I pull into the station, I'm surrounded by a dozen police and FBI cars. Turns out the car I'd just picked up was used in a bank robbery. Why there was no one on the scene when I picked up the car, I never found out.

So, they pop the trunk and pull out roughly $40,000 stuffed in the spare. Yep, my chance to be a playa flashed before my eyes and I decided it saved me from having to make such a hard decision at the ripe old age of 23.
