Im just wondering whats the long posponding crap ..... i hope its not one of those games that gets everyone all hyped up and all it can offer is only a few missions that can be done in like a week like Unreal 2 ... when doom 3 comes out .. i hope its all worth it .... im just impatient =)))))))) , You would think it would have been out already after 2 or 3 years . I cant wait to see what carmack has up his sleeves.

Maybe you could kindly edit the topic as to avoid any confusion, because it makes it sound like you're going to announce the release date.

Unreal 2 offered a large number of missions.. It's just that they mostly sucked ;)

im kind of taking offense to what you said.

The game has NOT BEEN POSTPONED. Its just been in development for a long time.

Its not going to be a hype game, and it will not offer a few missions.

I assure you, the hype is well-deserved. This game will be tremendous.

It will be worth it. Just go sleep until October or find something to keep yourself busy...

Doom 3 is going to revolutionize pc gaming. Game developers have always seemed to have been a step behind the hardware market, and Doom 3 has been in development for so long because with each new hardware technology, the game is being optimized to run with said hardware.

This game will be God.

Save your pennies and upgrade your box right before the game gets released.
the wait will be worth your time

I thought that statement came from 3DRealms on Duke Nukem Forever...

I thought that statement came from 3DRealms on Duke Nukem Forever...

I read an interview w/ Carmack online somewhere a while ago and he was talking about the GF4 vs ATI 9700 so it has been a while...but that was highlighted in the interview........now, it wasn't a direct quote in the article, so it could very well be that it originated from 3dRealms....

But it did apply to what the next statements were by Carmack about a timetable for Doom3 (to which he said there is none.....maybe he said "It ships when it's ready".....I dunno. But the point is the same.

With expectaions like yours, Doom III will SUCK. It will be the biggest disappointment since Daikatana or Unreal II. :p

Hold up?

Perhaps for a graphics card capable of running it smoothly with all the bells and whistles.

The TARGET GPU is GF3/Radeon 8500. The 9700 will run it ALL. Id is not gonna commit finincial suicide by releasing a game for less than 1% of computers. :p

the alpha could only run well on top-end computers because that was BALLS OUT RAW DOOM. Completely unoptimized for nothing but the e3 machine it ran on.

Carmack ORIGINALLY said it could RUN (note: run) on even a Geforce1 or 2, but with basically most of the advanced hardware features disabled.

to be able to work the game down that much for operability on lower machines must take some effort...

By the way, what makes a game 'suck' anyway?

Its a first-person shooter, its an incredible sensory experience, and it will make you crap your drawers. heh.

couldnt be SO bad.

ill love it just the same :)

You can't compare the suckage of Daikatana and U2. DooM3 is probably just being made "perfect" (like any PC game ever is), they'll want to make everything look pretty, get rid of bugs, add extra content, quadruple check everything, remodel some things a few times, find bugs, get rid of them, find new bugs caused by the old bugs fixes, fix them, etc. You get the picture, you can't just release a game unless you're not too bothered by big crap ups.
Plus they don't really need to rush.

Personally, I respect a software company that has a "it's ready when it's ready" attitude. I kinda wonder about people who b!tch and moan about a game "being held up" (not that Doom III is). It is probably the same people that b!tch and moan when a game is released and has crap loads of bugs... If more software vendors released software when it was ready, instead of when peaople FELT they needed it, we'd all be much happier IMO. Sometimes, people NEED things right now. Mostly, people can wait until its ready and (more) fully working/working correctly/less buggy.

I'm glad it's not out yet! I plan on playing Doom3 in 1920x1200 resolution, so i'll need a good videocard... hopefully by then i'll have a 9700 Pro or better.

I don't know . . . it's kind of nice when a popular game is released and found to be really buggy . . . by the time it hits the BARGAIN BIN (prematurely) , it is "fixed'. ;)

You would think it would have been out already after 2 or 3 years
Programs are getting bigger and more complex every day and thus 2-3 years for a game is hardly unusual.

Also releasing a game early just to please some whiners would be foolhardy as it would just lead to a buggy game and even more whiners.

Thank-you!

Want a current example? The people who paid fifty bucks for Unreal II generally HATED it (and it IS buggy). I paid $35 the day it was released and think it's OK. ;)

Now - today, in Hot Deals you can get it for $19.95 (after rebate) and the first patch is out. I'd say MOST people will get their 20 bucks worth. ;)

the editor is integrated right into the game

drop the console, type 'editor' and you can do pretty much anything.

Should be plenty of mods for it, but theyd probably take time. id give the mods 6 months after the DIII release.

Without a doubt - Daikatana. Unreal II is only disliked because of the hype and the original Unreal (not to mention it is short). Graphics are amazing and the story isn't bad (maybe too "depressing" - However, it DOES deal with guilt, redemption and sacrifice).

Of course, it depends on your expectations. ;)

Big games like that usually just.... appear. They've been quiet for so long that any day now Doom 3 will be released. id is just like that. It's the "calm before the storm." I'll bet you that it delivers, too. Their early hype, then all of the hype over the "accidental" release of the screens makes me think that there is something great in store for us all! :D

Usually the companies that release games "when they're done" release some of the best games. I know this is true with Blizzard, gotta love their games. They take years to put out their games as well. I think their MMORPG, World of Warcraft has been in development for 3+ years already and still has some time to go...

They've accepted 30,000 people to help test the expansion for Warcraft III, myself included. No way they let it hit shelves till the balance is just right and the bugs are gone. This beta is more bug free than most released software (including shovelware lol).
