One of those huge NASA jpegs. It was around 600mb of some nebula. We printed it to scale on our giant inkjet printer and it was about 4' x 8'.

Many years ago, on these very forums, someone posted a picture of the world (in TIFF) at about 500 MB... I remember downloading it over a day or so...

I do, it's about 50 million pixels in height and width.

If someone beats me, I've resized it to 500 million pixels in both directions.

The largest I could find on short notice:

30000 x 4048 = 121,440,000 - color image of a section of the region where Mars Rover Opportunity landed. The rover is visible there, just a few pixels wide. They get 25cm/pixel out of MRO. Here's a crop of it. And their online viewer

25,105 x 34530 = 866,875,650

29787 x 58004 = 1,727,765,148

All are from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. The latter one doesn't open with very many programs, and 1GB of free memory isn't enough for it. It's a 690MB Jpeg-2000 file. Why they decided to use Jpeg-2000 for these images, I do not know. Irfanview and GIMP can't seem to handle the larger JP2 images - not enough memory. Well heck, I've only got 2GB, what more does it want? I don't know why they don't just use the swapfile, either.

Yea, I was in Rajasthan, India as well, but only had a 2MP camera :( I would love to see you image! I just did a traditional collage of my India experiences.

My largest pic is probably one of the Blue Marbles from NASA. I have done some collages in Photoshop that get ~300MB and larger...with like 75+ layers

I dont know any hosting sites that will tolerate a 1.3GB png file.

I'll host it.

Want an upload account?

Bring it! :)

You can at least resave the PNG file as a JPG, and save a little bandwidth. :)

I hit around 450 MB (8800 x 8800) on 6x6 scanned at 4000 DPI in 16 bits. That's just medium format. You could get really crazy numbers with large format.

I'll see if i can find it. I've have like six computers since then. I hope that i still have the original digital file. I think only the hard copy now survives, which was printed at 24x36.
