The darn case connectors is always my problem. Just can't get a standard which way to connect them especially the hdd LED indicator.

So true. On first boot ill usually have no hdd led and the power led will be blinking away like the hdd ones supposed to be doing :frown:

plugging in the stupid power, reset, hdd lightt, and etc is very annyoing. everyboard is always diffrent. some are label poorly, some are label good, some of the board manuals are crap and dont help to much.

The jumpers, always the sodding jumpers.

For me building a PC isn't done till it is disposed of.

Or maybe resisting the urge to put my first through the BSOD.

i thought doing my first build was fun. It was on a friday night, and i messed up my ankle earlier that day playing basketball, so i decided to just stay in and put my parts together.

took a nice shower, got in some comfy clothes, put on my slippers (they have rubber soles which was good for avoiding static) and got to work.

everything started right up, and i was happy.

The parents were very impressed too, as they couldn't fathom the fact that a computer could be build.

very good experience

🙂

it is like you had a computer date 🙂

Assembly can be a bit tricky sometimes, but the hardest part is turning it on for the first time.

Agreed, completely true. After you put everything together, its very hard to turn the pc on. You might be worried that something will burn out or the computer won't start at all and then you will have to send everything back to be replaced with your own shipping money

An especially the many little connectors that comprise the link from mobo to front panel USB ports - it would be nice if they were put together in one big plug.

Ohhhhhh yeah. I remember the first time I had to deal with individual USB connectors (instead of the 9 pin plug). Tried taping them together, glued them wrong once (hello razor blade!) and found that inserting them one by one was the best way. Hated them until I needed ONE more USB header connection on a mobo, and I lost two rear USB ports that were on a 9-pin connector just to add one USB device internally.

usually the case power button an led connectors...damn things a so fiddly and i always forget about them till the last minute so i have to try wire em up once everything is installed.....then i dunno which way round they go...seems just chance that i usually get it right

my antec P160 had its USB ports wired into a nice easy to fit plug that just slots on the USB header on the mobo

did they do the same for the firewire and front audio ports? did they ******.....ive got about 20 seperate connectors and ill be buggered if i know where they go

im computer tech for a living so I have built well over 50 computers by now. I think overall hardest part is wiring the case wires sometimes puting on the heat sink if its not OEM and you have never done it you must read.

If the case needs to be taken apart to get the optical drives in, that can suck

The LED/Button connections of course

Sometimes lining up the motherboard with the risers

i would say wiring. or, maybe installing the motherboard into the tray. its really just not that hard of a process.

Same here

Everything else is simple. Now one thats not powering on or getting a signal thats a different post.

Plugging in all the connectors for power, reset, speaker, hdd, audio, usb, etc to the motherboard. Can't they just make a big, standardized plug?

YES YES YES

This should be a web wide push on the manufactures.

For me, the hardest part of my latest system build was getting the XP-90 hsf bracket on the mobo. I mean holy crap, the screws Thermalright provided was not compatible with my eVGA mobo. So I spent like2 hours going to Lowes hardware and getting all kinds of nuts and bolts to find a solution. Eventually I got the right width nut and bolt to work with the bracket but I spent another hour filing the bolts to a proper length.

It was well worth it, got my opty to hit 2.7ghz stable.

The second hardest as most of you might agree is the wiring. Man, it is a task with the P180.
