updated numbers from Anand :)

this should help the consumer determine if he/she wants 6600GT SLI

looking at those numbers closer, I would say that 6600GT SLI is great for playing games @ 1600x1200x32. I would consider this solution if I were to go to a 20" LCD..which I have been thinking about for a long time now...

However, playing games in general, I would say 6800GT still beats the 6600GT SLI solution. But it's nice to know that when I get a 20" LCD, I can have SLI and be able to play doom3 without any problems.

My midway judgement...6800GT single :)

Let see more stats!

it is kinda stupid IMO, dual 6600GTs in SLI dont seem to preform any better then a 6800GT according to the anand review

a 6800Gt costs like 400$
2 6600GTs would cost the same

its only cool for thoes with tons of money that can afford 2 6800GTs and play games at huge resolutions with no penality

As I couldn't bother reading through all the subpages, I am responding to the first point FreshPrince brought...

The reson a user might consider 6600GT SLI instead of one GT6800GT is that:
You don't have to buy 2x 6600GT at the same time as you buy the first one. You can wait for a year and wait for the price to go really cheap for a 6600GT and immediately get 80% performance boost. (may be $80?) Although 2x 6600GT might be more expensive now, only idiots would buy 2 together at the same time.

Sli is basically aimed towards hardcore gamers. People who want the best preformance they can get. Having two top of the line cards is definately better then one. Its capable of supporting lower end card doesnt mean you use it. If you are using two 6600 or lower end cards, you definately are wasting your money. Those who want the best they get sli and witht he best cards. They will out preform single top of the line card with a huge gap.

Its kinda like buying a workstation GPU like firegl etcc.. Is it for everyone? NO. LIke many of you have said. its not for everyone. Its a innovation and its a good one.

As I already said, it's not necessarily wasting money but is saving money for the lower end cards SLI configuration. It's an attractive upgrade path for lower-end user to buy 1 6600GT now and get one more 1 year later. The combned cost would be around 240 US$ (assuming one year later 6600GT falls to about US$60) which is no doubt chaper than one single 6800GT now and you get more performance.
