actually, i think camry is 4th behind dodge ram.

the top 3 selling vehicles in the US are all trucks, engines ranging from V6s on stripped down models to V10s. most people probably get something in the 5 L range, either the triton or the vortec or the hemi

175 kW!

LOL that seems so puny in comparison to what we see now.

Meh, the REAL engines will always be cubic inches. All this newfangled ninny crap can keep their silly liters.

The real engines are measured in cubic meters! :p

Theres the nice old 500 CI (8.2 Litre) Cadillac Engine from the 1970s, thats the biggest I can think of.

Nah, I like you guys. Woooo V8!
Meh, note my other car. Sadly I am on both sides here. Love that old V8 rumble and love taking a little high-revver out for a spin.

Yeah, I was about to call you out on the 944 myself reading through here. :p

If you're so hardcore torquey-American-V8, why'd you get a 4-cylinder Porsche? Granted, I love the 944s myself, but its a whole different ballpark of cars.

There's no replacement for displacement!

My street car, 3.5L V6. Just a normal everyday car. But.....

My race car, 400 c.i. Chevy running on alcohol. It makes a pretty noise.

kW divided by 742 (742 Watts = 1 HP)

Today's "normal" is a stinkin' 4.6L (281ci). I own three of those, as well as a wimpy 5L (302ci).
usually a substitute for poor engineering. I'll take this "wimpy" 5L any day.
Who the F wants "engineering"? I want simple & cheap, with lots of effortless (low RPM) power. Is that asking too much? I don't think so, when you consider the daily drivers of the sixties were just that configuration. Plenty of room & torque for dirt cheap. No reason why it can't be done again... oh, wait!

Right now we have a PT Cruiser. For a grocery getter, it's fine, but I hate that dog on the freeway. Stepping on the accelerator and getting nothing back is a real downer.

For driving clients around I want to get a 300 with the 3.5 V6. That's plenty for me. Sure the V8 might be nice now and then, but more often than not that extra power is going to go unused.

(Don't know what that is in KW)

Actually 1 hp is 745.699872 watts. Most people settle for 746. :)

So 260 * 745.699872 = 19388.196672 watts / 1000 = 193.88196672 KW

Does it have the 2.4L? For being such a small engine, it seems fairly peppy in my Sebring.

The 60's is gone dude. I get the point but I don't think any car manufacturer is willing to design a 4-door sedan that gets 8-10 mpg.
I think the 300 with a Hemi is your best bet here.

Why do I bother adding links? That configuration is still being done today, for a LOT less than Chrysler is asking for their V8 sedans. With fuel injection, these things are getting decent mileage as well. Hell, I can buy the Crown Vic, but they're still sticking the wimpy 4.6 in there. Probably all that will fit under the hood or something. Too bad, because people would have purchased the Marauder if it had some serious power.

Just go buy a truck then.

I only buy used, to save a TON of money, but used trucks cost too much, or I would buy one. I was hoping big used SUVs would come down in price, but I'm not seeing it...

I still want a Marauder. Gotta finish paying this one off first. By then the Marauder will probably be down to $5-8k

I won't buy a used sports car, because the previous owner probably beat the piss out of it. You could probably convert a granny driven G. Marquis into a Marauder though...

Why? Most people don't care about power, why do you think a big V8 should be the default? The only thing it would do is further increase fuel consumption. You must be a Saudi.

Edit: By the way, doesn't today's class leader, Nissan's 3.5L VQ, make more power than your old V8s? Rose colored glasses.

By "buzzy", I mean hyper, high RPM engines. I like effortless power, not engines screaming through several gears, just to get up to 40MPH.

I have a 2.0L I4 in my car and I easily hit 60mph in 2nd gear (in about 6.3 seconds) ....just sayin'.

That's the way it use to be, before the migration to sh|tboxes.

Nice, smooth effortless power... cheap. Enough power that a 3 speed automatic was more than enough, and you barely feel the shift. Hell, even 2 speed autos were adequate with that much torque available!
