Whats the easiest fail safe way to unlock one? I only have PC2100 ram and don't want to risk killing it. I heard of the superglue/defogger kit trick but I really don't want to do that. Is there a easier way?

Does this really work?

Says it only works with Thoroughbred and Barton how do I find out which I have. I bought it roughly 4-6 months ago.

Yes, I've tried it and it really works. Using an athlon XP 1700+ thoroughbred A. To find out which one you have, look at the defualt core voltage... If it is 1.5, you have t-bred A, if it's 1.6, you have t-bred B. If by the slight chance you think you have a palomino.... I forget.... It all has something to do with the lettering on the serial numbers....

That's definitely a Palimino chip, same as mine. I'll be doing the Superglue/Defogger trick this week. It's not that bad man.

Thats just my luck. Is there a easier way of unlocking it(other than the defogger kit trick)?

afaik, no
you need to connect L1's.....and thats the only way to do so
(you can substitute the materials with something else if you want....but the idea still holds)

Is artic silver 2 conductive? Could I use normal compound to fill in the gaps and use ASII for the bridges?

Arctic silver (from I-III) are all slightly conductive, which is why you should never just slather it over the cpu. However, the reason it was made that way is the keep the possiblilty of unwanted shorts to a minimum..... In terms of connecting your L1 bridges, you might want to use something that is meant to be conductive... generic silver grease would do, I get em at computer shows marked as ASII or ASIII, and get a huge discount off the marked price when I confront them about it with a tube of the actual stuff...
