What's the dressiest way to tie a tie?

I think a full windsor knot looks the best, but I can only tie half windsor knots.

I agree but with the waistlines of most these days many would look like clowns because the tie would be way too short.

Yep. With a standard tie, I can't get a double/full windsor without the tie being too short. If I'm wearing a vest or a jacket that will stay buttoned, I usually go for it because the shortness is hidden.

No such thing. Depends on the tie, the shirt, the person, etc.

Yup.

It really depends on the type of collar you have - a spread collar would be good for a full Windsor knot. A more typical pointed collar would work well with a half-windsor. However if you have a tie on the skinny side you may want to go with a smaller four-in-hand knot.

Sorry I wasn't more specific.

Full windsor = regular tie + dress shirt?
Four-in-hand?? = slim tie + dress shirt?

You probably don't want to do a four-in-hand with a slim tie and a broad spread collar. For a button-down collar or a narrow spread pointed collar then a four-in-hand could be okay.

Also your body build would factor in if you want to do a full or a half Windsor. I have a short neck and I think a full Windsor looks a bit bulky on me.

Used to do 4 in hand but I didnt like the asymmetry. I now do halfwindsor.

Trying to pick up some more spread collar shirts that look good w/ a halfwindsor/fullwindsor
