What's the dilly on the nForce 3.13 drivers?

I'm running an 8RDA+ and I'm curious as to how these drivers perform, or what issues they are known to cause. Also, what's the recommended way to uninstall the previous drivers?

IDE drivers are still sketchy for some. They won't even let me boot into Windows with those installed. Plus the ethernet driver is more cpu intensive than previous drivers.

No problems here (Asus A7N8X Deluxe). Just installed right over the top of the old ones. Use Driver Cleaner if you're really paranoid.

It seems the new Nforce drivers are giving problems with copy protected CD's using Safedisk. Call of Duty etc.

I personally had the problem, and it just sat at the 'splash' screen for a long time and would never boot into the game. Same goes for my MS Golf 2003. I'm going to try just installing the new drivers without the IDE drivers and see if that fixes it, as there was never a problem with 2.45 -or whatever the exact # of the older drivers were-.

Also, does anybody notice it takes an incredibly long time -comparitively- to load your "personal preferences" in XP? It boots fine, up until you get into Windows at the point where it gets ready to log you in, and it just sits there for a minute or so.

Seems to have to do with the Nforce drivers ...

They worked great and bootup was faster

But they made my videoout on my g4mx420 really "weird" - not sure how to explain :\

Instead of taking up the whole screen, they would be squashed on the sides by a few inches and it would throw off the aspect ratio. I tried everything I could to fix it to no avail so what I did was switch to Linux and I'm glad I made the switch - though Windows still exists for those nights my dorm gets a lan of CS going or something else 🙂

What do you guys think about the new SW IDE driver from them? I tried it and I wasn't sure, so I went back to the regular IDE one and I think loading games like BF1942 is actually slower than it was with the new SW IDE driver thing. I have a 2500+ OC'd to 2800+ speeds and an Abit NF7-S Revision 2 board with Windows XP Pro.

Ardan ... I thought the same, and went back to reinstall the SW IDE driver. Not so sure its better than the last release though; I think these are worse.

no problems here on my 8RDA+ w/GF4 4200. IDE drivers are flawless for me. Boot up time is faster as is program loading. I'm impressed (amazed?)

No problems with 3.13 here.

Those who have problems with the SW IDE drivers should consider adding a cheap (no raid capabiliity required) PCI ATA controller to their system and running the optical drives off that. Leaves the integrated channels free for dedication to HDD's.

The IDE drivers fixed the problems with shutting down the hard drives prematurely and the burning problem with Nero, but now the system chokes when using defragmenting programs and it gets real choppy under heavy disk use that didn't occur with previous drivers or the ITB drivers (note: this is what happens with my config, so it may not happen on your's).

Wouldn't know about the sound drivers really because frankly I gave up on Nvidia's "oh the drivers are going through WHQL, check back next week" word for several months and got a standalone sound board that just works peachy now.

And finally the last annoying bug I noticed was the ethernet drivers causing a constant stream of 6-7% spikes in CPU usage even at idle. Went back to the previous ethernet drivers and all is well. So basically I'm using a combination of different drivers that folks of the nForcer's HQ forums have conveniently packaged for easy installation.

A well known site for these kinds of remixed drivers is Mwarhead's page, and he made a cool package that resets the drivers to the original state before any nForce drivers were installed so that you can safely reboot after uninstallation et al, but there is still a certain procedure for using it (it's called nForce Reset), and here is Mwarhead's recommendation:
Run Reset first making sure you click yes to installing SW IDE (its not the actuall SW ide its really the Generic).
Then run driver cleaner.
Pull down to nForce Chipset and hit clean.

*NOTE* If you have not run the reset (and clicked yes to installing the SW ide) or manually replaced the SW ide drivers with Generic Microsoft ide drivers then when you run driver cleaner or the Nvidia Uninstaller upon reboot you will get a blue screen saying unacessible boot device. Please do not restart your computer after running the Nvidia Uninstaller or the Driver cleaner if you havent replaced the SW ide driver. The reason I dont recommend using the Nvidia Uninstaller is that it locks it so that no other nForce set can be installed (except manually) until after reboot and this includes my reset.

SO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

1. Mwarhead's nForce Reset
2. Driver Cleaner
3. NORMAL Reboot
4. Install nForce UDP or Remix
5. NORMAL Reboot
6. Reinstall/Uninstall +Install Video Drivers
Overall I am not impressed with the 3.13's, but I didn't expect every little issue to be fixed as Nvidia's driver support is lacking. But you may have a different experience, so just play it safe and set a system restore point if possible and use these driver cleaning utilities. HTH.

FWIW, I've been hearing from beta testers that there will be another release of the UDPs that will come out when the new audio control panel/utilities is released. Hopefully they'll have the ethernet driver issue fixed as well as improved EAX support.

Faster DCDDR performance wouldn't hurt, either. 🙂

Any idea of a possible release date?

I wish I knew, I just keeping getting reasssurance that it won't be near as long a wait as the one for 3.13 was. And the updated audio controls are going to be out with them. I hope the guys are right and that the UDPs/control panel are worth the wait.

I hope so too... I was hoping for the new audio control panel with the 3.13s and was mildly disappointed.

Thats a rathre extravagant solution, and I doubt adds any tangible performannce gains.

Or use a SATA hard drive =)
