What's The Difference, I Cant Tell, Please Help??

Greetings,

I'm putting together an upgrade and can't tell the difference between these two motherboards. They are the Giga-Byte GA-K8NSNXP-939 and the Giga-Byte GA-K8NS Ultra-939. I looked at the specs and both appear to be identical, but I know there has to be some difference between them besides the price.

I'm think of pairing one of these motherboards along with a AMD 64 3500+ CPU 939 socket, 2x512MB dual channel PC3200 memory, and GeForce 6800 GT 256 MB video card in order to build a decent gaming system. I don't feel like waiting for PCI Express as the prices are too high and I'm sure they'll be some teething issues at first. Your opinions are valued. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Hans Groenewold

I looked at the specs three times and could not see any difference, but I know there has to be one. Maybe the specs I looked at didn't list the difference. I wonder if the FBS is different.

Check it out. I went to DirectPC.com to see how much it would cost to have them build my desired PC for me. Under the motherboard selection, it looks like they're offering two of the boards I mentioned, one costs about $91. more than the other. The only difference is one has NXP added to the model name. I looked at the printed specs and saw no difference between them although there has to be to justify the extra $91., which is almost the price of another motherboard. I tried to post the link, hope it works, my first time.

found it! things xp has that the other doesn't (other than DPS):gigabit lan, 4 sata ports (other has 2),dual bios, ieee1394 (fire wire; in fact has ieee 1394b), and a "Bundle GC-SATA" (don't know what that is). Here is where I found the compairison:

the xp is listed under all the others so it's kinda hard to look at the 2 together. luckly, I already did the compairison for you. aren't I a nice guy? 😀
hope it helps

That's pretty good. You are a nice guy and your help is very much appreciated. So with what I want out of the PC, mainly gaming, is it safe to go with the regular board rather than spending the extra $91. for features I don't really need? By the way, what's DPS?

Thanks again,
Hans

probably. and in the future if you do want any of those things, you could buy pci card with those functions for less than $91 (of corse then it just takes up one more pci slot) I'd go with the cheapy. unless of corse you want the extra special, super-duper, magical "Bundle GC-SATA"!!! (still can't figure out what the heck that is  )

DPS I believe is for Dual Power System.
