sounds like someone was locked in the closet as a child and beaten by an AMD processor. i can see the repressed feelings coming out.

As others said, the 630 has EM64T, and 2mb of cache, but it's other advantage is that it runs a bit cooler as well, making it a better choice if you plan on overclocking as well.

unfortunately with double the cache, latenices have been relaxed on the cache making the 640 actually slower than the 530 in some tests.

Yes, I have also heard the 6xx series Prescotts do run a little cooler, so if you're overclocking, it will probably get you a better overclock. The 64-bit support is nice, too...

I think they should be the same but the 630 will have 64 bit support and double the L2 cache. I would get the 630.

I second that,
but wtf why do you want intel anyways? Any AMD processor will blow it away, including the 3000+ venice core.
Well, first of all, please, read the title of this thread.
Second, I am tired of this AMD suggestion. I said I didn't want it, still, I am suggested to get AMD. If some people cannot read straight then I 'll have to ask myself: Am I in the right place to ask for help?

if you are not open to suggestions, then dont post here.

I would also recommend an AMD CPU but since you want to get an intel just get the one you feel most comfortable with (pricewise). Both are plenty fast anyway.

According to pricewatch a retail 530J is $174, and a retail 540J is $212. What's a retail 630? $227. So, I'd go with the Pentium 4 530J. If you want something faster, go with the 540J, not the 630.

Oh, if you don't need retail CPUs, it's still $161 for the P4 530, $187 for the P4 540, and $212 for the P4 630. You don't get the execute disable bit, but I still think the 540 would perform faster than the 630.
