Thinking about picking one of these up at a local shop for $60. But I dont know if its V3.0 or not as the one on Linksys' page lists.

If its older, does a firmware update make it 3.0 or should I make sure I am getting the 3.0 model because its hardware based differences?

Linksys Info is what you look for the answer. I bought WRT54G 3.0 few weeks ago with stock firmware.

I have a WRT54G v3 and it appears that all revisions are able to use the same firmware. The v3 has the Cisco Systems logo on the front left backlit with an orange LED when the wifi is active. 🙂

I have a v3.1 at the office and the only visible difference between the v3 is the green SES logo on the front and newer firmware.

v3 adds the one touch security button - third party firmware that supports the previous version (2.2?) will work fine on it.

There's apparently a v4 that's not yet well supported.

I really like the WRTs, but I do wish that Linksys would leave them alone.
