It's all about popularity.

When 13-year old girls are screaming to it... it's pop.

There's actually two meanings of "pop". An abridged version of "popular", the music of which is just what is hot on the music charts is considered "pop".

Then there is the labled "pop" genre which is usually lighter, more bubbly music that *generally* uses electronics to make most of the music. Pop is usually more up tempo and cheerful.

"Rock" is generally more edgy, using the typical band makeup of lead singer, guitarist, bassist, and drummer.

Just my $.02.

HAHHAHA

wow, are you serious?

Pop is trash. stupid bands that dont play good music but are popular anyhow. There are a few good pop musicians in the history of the world, but generally its just trash that gets played on the radio and makes good looking yet untalented trash who cant sing or write their own music millions of dollars.

Im not gonna explain what rock is, if you havent figured that out u dont deserve to know.

SAMS ADVICE: Listen to music, it teaches you stuff about.....music

Led Zepplin and FleetwoodMac are selling 30 year old albums just as well as Britney's latest.

Over 30 years ago, Led Zepplin released an untitled album.
More than 30 years later, it is still selling in the top 300.

Some of the current pop stars will be out of the top 300 within 6 monthes.

Listen to Britney. Then listen to Offspring. Or if you consider Offspring to be more punk than rock, listen to some Ozzy. :)

Britney is pop
Offspring is pop punk
Ozzy is god
and John Melloncamp can be considered good ol' rock and roll.

Pop is musical entertainment. It's manufactured to be popular, catchy, and, ultimately, forgetable. Rock is a genre of music that might have artists that become popular (Zeppling, Billy Joel, Doors, etc.,)

Very good summary. You could add Bob Seger in under Rock too.

I believe you mean "...EL-OH-EL-AY Lola!..." ;)

By coincidence, I'm listening to Layla right now. You know that Clapton wrote Layla about George Harrison's wife?
