I'm deciding between these two boards because the NF4-D is 12 bucks cheaper. I'm not that cheap, I just want to know why the same board, without the "ultra" designation would be cheaper. What does ultra do? Is it worth the price?

The ultra version has SATAII(3Gb) and Nvidia Active Armor. Fop a mere $12 difference. I think it's worth it.

You lose the second gigabit controller, the second SATA controller (down to 4 SATA ports instead of 8).

Not sure... the Ultra may well be a bit faster. All I do know is theres no speed difference between Ultra and SLI chipsets... but between vanilla and Ultra I'm not sure..
