Whats the difference between Memory Size and Memory Interface

i hope i am not just wasting my time so you and your buddies can get a laugh.

interface - this would be the gold contacts if we are talking about ram or the connector (ide/sata/scsi) if we are talking about hdds

size - this would be MB/GB
 
i am not up on the architecture of gpus but i believe that refers to the way in which the gpu is connected to the memory, and in the gpu case the 256bit interface was/is better, it is on the higher end gpus. i think it would have to do with how much data can be transmitted at a time, but again, i am not up on gpu architecture and you may want to look around the video card benchmarks forums for a more in-depth answer
 
yeah because it didn't make sense to me who cares how much calcualtions you can do if your stopped by the amount of data that can be transfered
 
Memory size is how much space the card has to store information.

Memory interface describes the way the card stores/retrieves information from that space.

Say you were emptying a bucket into a funnel and through a pipe. Memory size is how big the bucket is. Memory interface is how wide the pipe is.
 
Hi, I'm guessing that this is what you want to know: Mem Size would probably refer to the amount of mem available in BYTES. Interface would refer to how much memory your board could address. Each added address line doubles the amount of mem that can be addressed (it's binary). Check specs with the makers.
