what's the difference between: DSTN, CSTN, active matrix, passive matrix?

STN/Passive matrix basically are crap. Low viewing angles, poor contrast ratio, crappy colour representation.

Active matrix, aka TFT, have much better colour representation, higher viewing angles, faster response time, better contrast ratios.

I could not recommend you get any kind of stn/passive matrix display.

stn displays have the advantage of using much less power, so they are often used in mobile devices (my sony ericsson t68i has one)

other than that, no real advantages

do active lcd's really use that much power? isn't it a tiny infintecimal fraction of the power used for the backlight?
