99% aesthetics. the fan is slightly higher volume but, not enough to be realistically better performing. the achilles just came out of NDA so I'd say a minimum of a month before it's in the channel, expect it to have a pricetag about that of the tuniq, maybe a litthe higher.

Also,

Clear plastic framed/bladed fans like the Scorpion's are going to be slightly louder than their black plastic counterparts.

It's not, the color of the fan affecting the sound level is horse pucky, JaYp146 is flat out wrong here. The new fan on the red scorpion actually is quieter by a few DB @ ~26dbA.

The Red Scorpion's pipes are also nickle plated, but it won't make a difference performance wise.

Money-wise, the regular S1283 is a better deal. You're just paying for aesthetics with the red scorpion.

well the price difference on newegg is only about $3 so its not that big of a difference. But i don't know if i should get this now or just wait for the achilles.

 the clear plastic might be more brittle, I'd say thats even reasonable but, how would that make it louder?

DerwenArtos12.......you need to browse SPCR more frequently. Apparently, according to extensive fan testing in the SPCR labs, a brittle clear plastic fan frame transmits vibration/resonance sounds easier than the softer plastic in the common black frames. It's not a monster difference.....but it's there, and measurable.

Of course if the rest of your setup is loud, doesn't mean much.

I'm going to partially eat crow here. I'm old and apparently going blind more so than I thought, I was under the impression that it was simply the blades of this fan that were translucent but, apparently(i still can't see it from the pictures on newegg) the frame is translucent as well and I will agree that the lack of plasticizers or rubberizers in translucent plastics will translate more vibrations that what is common amongst fans. Translucent blades wouldn't have made shite for difference like I said earlier though.
