How does this chip compare against my 3800 x2 money and performance wise?

I cannot find much on them, and know nothing myself.

Comparing the single-cored Opteron 146 to the X2 is an apples to oranges comparison. As Chase indicated, comparing the Opteron 165 to the X2 is a more valid comparison.

Well I am talking bout the 146. I am wanting to trade my cpu the x2 for a faster single core chip and was offered the opt 146, but I cannot find any info on it!

Is the 146 a older cpu? What core is it?

Any help is great thanx !

It's very similar to a San Diego core...the 146 is 2.0GHz, 1MB L2 cache (basically, a 3700+ single core clocked 200MHz slower)...they seem to overclock at least as well as Venice/X2's, and usually somewhat better.

Edit: The 146 is also supposed to be available for about $150-175 I believe.

SynthDude has it right- its a newer chip moving some of the Opteron models to socket 939. I have the 146 myself and love it. 3Ghz on air is awesome! I'll still trade you the 146 for your 3800 though!!

CABYE is pretty good. Not as good as CABNE, but good enough *)

CABYE 0540 is just as good, if not better, than CABNE.

Seriously? That's good news. I hope the CAB2E stepping procs turn out just as well.

I just got a CAB2E 0540FPMW stepping, and am putting it through its paces right now. I am not the most adept at OC'ing on an SLI-DR, but I am working on it.

There are two Opteron 146's.
The one you want is the socket 939.
Everyone seems to think that is what the guy wants to trade you, and probably so.
But, it could be the older socket 940, which is totally different, and will not work in 939 motherboards.

If he has had the CPU a couple months, it might be 940.
With all the great talk about the 146's, now is a good time to dump an old socket 940 Opteron 146.
