so my gf says she won't accept anything less than a platinum engagement ring. Personally I don't see what the fuss is all about, gold looks a lot better to me. Is it popular just because its expensive?
Dunno. I just wanted a wedding band, but my wife insisted on getting me a diamond and emerald one. I got my wife a nice engagement ring...she didn't care if it was platinum or not.
Moral of the story is, don't put yourself in too much debt buying a ring. It is a token of love and a symbol of marriage....not a status symbol. 🙂
wtf? Isnt something a litle wrong if she wont agree to marry you unless you buy her a really expensive ring? Shouldnt a marriage be about love, not the difference between two precious metals?
It's gotten kinda trendy lately, don't really know why. My wedding band is platinum and rose gold (gold alloyed with small amount of copper). I got it because all my jewelry has always been silver (I've always thought gold was a little gaudy...just my opinion) and a silver band was too cheapo.
Anywho: what girl wants, what girl gets. Women are funny about their engagement rings...just one of those age-old mysteries I suppose.
well I'm sure she'd marry me even if I gave her a plastic ring. Its just that she feels she has to act like she won't accept anything less than the best from me. Girls are funny like that.
Her own father would disown her if he heard she demanded an expensive ring. I keep threatening to tell him 😀
For some reason, the white metals are hot right now. Besides platinum, white gold is in high demand. Personally, I don't understand why. At first glance, the white metals look cheap (like silver) compared to yellow gold.
My wife's reasoning for "needing" platinum was that the jewler told her it was more durable then white or yellow gold. And my response was what are you getting a new job as a construction worker? Needless to say she has a platinum engagment ring and wedding band, where as mine is white gold. lol

I would have gotten her a band made of Carbon-Fiber 😀
<edit>
Hey, That's actually a cool idea! I think that is what my band will be made out of. Better my band, than my dash.

Well...it is true that platinum is less likely to bend and mar than gold...esp. 24K gold.
My gf just doesn't like yellow gold. Clashes with her hair (she's blonde)?
Either way she doesn't care if it's silver, white gold or platinum.
I spung for this one a few month ago. She feel in love with it about 5 or so years ago and nothing else ever came close. Thankfully, I was able to have it made with a stone I purchased separately for about half the price of the original designer (the pic is from his website).
I generally dont like gold. Platinum or white gold, platinum preferably, have been my jewelry of choice (other than silver). Only once did I have something gold-a dressy mavado-but I got rid of it. Recently though I recieved this (with a fireblue stone) in gold...and even though its a bit gaudy, its impressing me more and more lately. I might start wearing gold now, but I still think having everything (watch, bad, ring) gold is a bit excessive/flashy looking.

Women are nuts that's why. Geez, did'nt you learn anything in kindergarden?😉
