Is it still worth it to get it over a 3800 x2. I'm getting my CPU repaired this week and will be selling it afterwards for peace of mind. Thinking about whether to get the 3800 x2 or a 165. I would def. have gotten the opteron if it still used the toledo core.

The Opteron 165 has always used the Denmark core. I do not know what makes you think otherwise. The Opteron 165 remains both a higher quality chip, and a superior overclocker when put into a comparison with the Athlon 64 X2 3800+.

I've always been under the impression it had a toledo core. Well, read up on it more and found out they changed steppings, causing them to not overclock as well. I don't really wanna pay more to push the CPU to the edge when I OC to 2.4 when my 3800 x2 did that with stock cooler. Rumors true?

I am not up to date on the overclocking capabilities of the current steppings of either processor. I only know that a month or two ago, the Opteron 165 was a better choice than the X2 3800+

Even with new steppings, I would be surprised if an Opteron 165 could not make it to 2.5Ghz.(Assuming you have a mainboard that has enough HTT headroom to make up for the 9x multiplier)

If you are planning on making a purchase or a sell in the near future, I suggest you wait for someone to reply who has more experience with the Opteron 165 than I do. In any case, this post will double as a bump.

My 3800 has a Toledo core- if that makes any difference to you. I have it at 2.4 with 1.37-1.4v and stock cooling. I'm almost positive it would do 2.6-2.7 on a different mobo and better cooling. Load temps are about 50c (dual priming) otherwise ive never seen in much above 45 -it usually hovers in the low 30s. I wish i knew the stepping but i installed it w/o writting it down ... cpuz says revision JH-E6. Anyways i hope that helps a little- i dont much about the 165 accept that its a 'server grade' cpu - so i guess that means it can handle more intense conditions (ie overclocking). Good luck.

That is odd. Perhaps a pre release model? All roadmaps I have seen show the 165 as Denmark.
