Whats the deal with my Radeon and my ECS K7s5A?

My Radeon will not work with my K7S5A board what so ever. Even at the bios bootup screen! I had my Radeon working in my Iwill KK266 for many months flawlessly. Whats the deal? Does anyone have a K7S5A and a Radeon? I have the Radeon LE 32meg w/tv and I had it overclocked on my Iwill KK266 but using powerstrip! I can get the Radeon to work somewhat in winXP at lowest res possible. I have the latest offical BIOS for my ECS k7s5a! Should I look for an unoffical BIOS? Is the Radeon just not compatible with my board?

You might want to check the ECS forum at amdmb.com - I recall reading a number of people having problems with certain ATI cards and that board. Don't remember which ATI it was.

Do you get any kind of post beeps? For example if you are getting 5 post beeps then there is a problem with the video card (it could be not sitting properly in the AGP slot).
Also another suggestion is to try another card (borrow it somewhere) & place it in the AGP slot & see what happens.

I assume since you get it "semi-working" at low res, that it is properly seated in the slot.

Look in your BIOS, if you are able. Try first disabling fastwrites to the AGP card (or something like that, my Alzheimer's is kicking in and I don't remember exactly what it's called). Another thing you can try is to set the AGP bus to 2x instead of 4x.

FWIW my Radeon 8500 worked fine with the ECS K7S5A

No beeps! Like I mentioned it will post and boot into winxp fine like nothing is wrong. I wish it was that simple! The screen is chopped up. I got the board working fine using an 8meg Rage XL AGP card so it isnt the AGP slot or the board.

Well I have already tried to go to 2x by using my RageXL and I am pretty sure that fast writes were disabled. I am not 100 percent that I tried disabling fast writes, but Fast writes didnt work with my Iwill board either.

I have a Radeon 32DDR on my ECS k7S5a & never had a problem with it,not with any bios.

It works fine in win2k & XP. try installing the latest drivers for your card & the latest SIS agp driver.

Budman you obviousily didnt read my original post. Yes I have the current sis AGP driver, but that really doesnt help when my screen is blurred at bootup. I also have the BIOS just released not too long ago. I want to try my Radeon in yet another board to see if went bad somehow!

I had my Radeon LE in my Iwill KK266 and put into my K7S5A with Windows XP as well, only i am having no problems at all. Just letting you know that i have gone down the same upgrade path as you without the same problems. Hope your card isnt crapping out on you.

I installed the 6011 drivers for my Radeon, I heard the 6032's give a bunch of problems on some cards.

hmm I think I will try that eraser trick.

Yeah that is good to hear that you had sucess with your card and the ECS k7S5A.

I am starting to shop for a new card! Any suggestions?

I do want to get an Iwill XP333R but the price of DDR and especially DDR333 wshich is what I want to use is so very high.

I am running PC133 in my K7S5A, but I dont think that could in anyway affect my video card!
