What's the consensus on Earth: Final Conflict as a sci-fi series?

Is it considered in the same league as Star Trek TNG, Deep Space 9, Babylon 5 and Stargate SG-1?

I know a lot of people like Farscape but I could never get into that. I've seen bits and pieces of Earth: Final Conflict and it seems interesting -- basically, I'm intrigue with whether the Talons are good or not (don't tell me if it's already been revealed). Anyways, the reason I'm asking is because I noticed that Best Buy is selling Earth Final Conflict DVD sets.

I thought it was an excellent series for the first season or two, then it went straight to hell after that. Basically...don't buy the dvd set, rent it first or watch some saturday afternoon tv to see how it is first.

I've tried to watch this show a few times, and was never able to get into it. It seemed to always have an amateurish "grade-B" feel to it. Nowhere close to being in the same league as Farscape, TNG, or Babylon 5, not by a long shot.

I really liked that show when it first came out... then I didn't watch it for a while and it kind of sucked. They replaced the main character, etc.

I watched parts of it when it first came out, but then everything about it changed as if the studio execs messed with everything. I couldn't even recognize anything.

I never watched it all that much but I didn't like it. Farscape and TNG are the best sci-fi I think. I've seen some B5 and it looks pretty good also. I should watch B5 from the beginning like I did with farscape.

Once you do, you will probably think B5 is better than TNG or Farscape.

I don't like TNG and never seen Farscape... I'm not a sci-fi freak. But I just finished watching the first 3 seasons of B5 and it's pretty good. I like how there's a real big story arc and how characters remember things from previous episodes and other things that you don't see in other series. However, it has some really dumb episodes, especially in the first season.

It's a good show, though not quite cream of the crop like those you mentioned. Still, it's quite a solid effort! The storyline was good, fairly complex, and long ranging. Had some cool tech ideas, really liked how we integrated alien tech into our world. The aliens went from evil to misguided back to evil and finally to a whole other state. Of course they eventually tried to work in a lot of mysticism, too, in seasons 3 and 4. The show itself was good really up to the last, fifth season. Then it took a nosedive. Good thing they planned on ending it there anyway. Ending was okay, made sense, fit well with the story before that.

In the end, if you're looking for a good sci fi series (and lord knows there's nothing new that's good. Latest seasons of Stargate and perhaps Andromeda being the exceptions) this is a solid choice. Too bad about you not liking Farscape, BTW. I love that series, think it's hilarious. Nothing like seeing a geek stuck in the middle of a real-life alien adventure.

Oh, about the DVDs. There's a catch. There was a production shift or something after the second season, so the DVDs are starting at season 3. (That one is titled No Refuge, season 4 is Destination Dark, season 5 is Face the Horizon.) It's dumb, I know. Try watching the first two seasons on TV if you can, it fills in some needed background.

Anyway, if you get I hope you like.

Never really wandered passed the Star Trek, B5 series...
Haven't given the show much of a chance since I don't get the Sci-Fi channel
same goes for Lexx, Farscape

Definetly see it! IMO, B5 was the best sci fi series ever made for television. The characters, the 5 year story arc, the consequences to actions, the fact that things had consequences at all! The science, the technology, the aliens, the makeup, the writing, all of it was fantastic stuff when you consider they were making it on a shoestring budget with pioneering CGI technology. It's also a series that must be seen twice. Once to understand what's going on, the second time to get the literal ton of foreshadowing and little hints that are dropped along the way. Kosh so 0wnz :D

You can skim through season 1, there are only like 4-5 critical episodes to watch, see most of season 2, and all of season three (there are two exceptions if you care). Alas season 4 isn't out till Janurary. That and 3 are just stunning in how well they're done. 5 goes downhill a bit, but is still stronger than season 1.

What I want to know is if they'll be releasing the spin-off, Crusade. o_O ("It was our last, best hope for a good franchise... It failed.")

I'd like to nail your head to the table and set it on fire.

Lexx, oy. The mini-series/season 1 is pretty good, but then it gets WAAAYYY over-sexed!! Majorily. Especially in season 3. From the little I caught of season 4, when they're on Earth, things do not improve. At least they ended it there, where they said they would. Lexx is a series I'd say avoid, unless you like b-movie-ish sets and stories, completes with the gratitious sex.

Hehe... That's what I liked about Lexx. :) That and the fact that the crew of the Lexx could care less about the people and planets they run into. (Like the episodes where Lyekka eats a few people..) It made for pretty good comedy.

I really can't decide which is the best Babylon 5, TNG, or SG-1. They have to be the 3 greatest shows ever made.
