Here's my specs and my story:

AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W Quad-Core
XFX Double D HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
ASUS M5a97 AMD+ SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard
HITACHI HDS721050CLA362 (0F10381) 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
Thermaltake 550w Power SUpply ( SLI & Crossfire ready ).

Okay. Here's my story. First and foremost I'd like to introduce myself. I've built my first computer back in 2006 of April. My first comp was a Dual Core x2 4400+, which was around 300 dollars back then! My Asus A8n-32 last a long time too, but was my second board, because the one I first got was an Asus-A8n, which lasted me a month. The 550w Power Supply still powers up the Radeon I'm currently using which works! The HDD Hitachi works as well! ( Gonna' test it out tonight just incase if it needs RMA too ).

It's just the motherboard I bought which was an M5a97. When I first got it, It wouldn't post. Me thinking probably it was the processor, because they needed an update. But ti comes to find out that the mobo is updated. Still wouldn't post. Fans, everything will be on, but that mobo. So I RMA'd everything including the ram. Just waiting for it to come. Do you think I'm all set up? My PSU works, my HDD works, My Video card works. The only I didn't test out was the CPU and Ram on another computer, because let's face it. My out of money on this PC and I've gotta' pay bills. I was gonna' use the new PC for entertainment and video editing. What you guys think?

10% chance of DOA. My motherboard wise fine upon arrival but died when I inserted new RAM despite common sense and precautionary measures.

Having been in the hardware game for a while, there always are top 5 oems that make specific components better than others yet even these top 5 share roughly even numbers of failures between them.

Failures happen but there are few POST checklists you should verify before RMAing.

10% sounds way high even for homebuilt systems. How did you derive that figure?

I've tried everything and it didn't work. This happened with my A8n Mobo. The same exact thing. We'll just see today. Lord knows. I just want this issue dealt with so I can move on. My PSU, Video CArd, and Even HDD works. Breadboarded the mobo FIRST and no posts. No beeps, no nothing. But I did wear socks that day and moved around ALOT. That could've been the case of static discharge. It happens. I'll let you guys know what will happened.

Personally, I've had absolutely lousy luck when it comes to a NewEgg/Asus mix, including my current board:

So yeah, I thinks it's highly probable to have MB issues.

MSI MB have so far been good to me . . . wish I'd went with them on this new build instead of Asus again.

.

I agree. If the board boots up or not ( Which I do hope it does, because it's a NEWEGG RMA. ), I'm going to another brand. I've had two boards fail on me with Asus brand. My board I'm currently running was 248 bucks when I purchased it in 2006 and it's still running strong. Maybe the lower to mid tier they don't care too much about. I'm gonna' give the board currently coming a good go. I pray and hope it works though. Been without using the new rig for almost a MONTH now.

Update! Well, It turns out the board works! However, when I put the FX 4100 processor in there, It only reads one ram stick. I actually thought both were defective until I put my Sempron 130 AM3 processor in there. Whaya know? All ram read without crashing to boot windows. The latest version of the board is 901 which is listed, but you think I'll need to downgrade my bios?
