What's the biggest job YOU have ever done to your car?

Rebuilt a GM 3100 v6, replaced sensors in a GM 4-speed transmission valve body, currently rebuilding a 70 Corvette. In fact, the 350 in it looks identical to the one in SupaDupaCheez's pics, except his is way cleaner. Same air cleaner and everything.

I have had an engine overbored by a machine shop, then reassemble it myself from the bare block alone.

Also had turbo'd up my daily driver and restored it back to stock for SMOG.

Built a custom transmission for a former CRX I owned, swapped engine for a larger one (B16A) and slapped a T3/T4 on it.

Then I wrecked it on I-95.

Best thing I did so far at my ripe age of 21 was rebuild the front end of my first car which was a 95' Taurus. Got in an accident the night my ex broke up with me(so thats i was told not to drive when emotional and 18)

Insurance company said it was be like $2000 bucks. At which point it would have been better to buy a new car. Cept I didnt have that kind of money. Luckily Dad works for Ford at a plastics/molding plant and they happened to have extra bumpers(which were 'defective') for my car which he had painted at the plant and brought home, then found the rest of the parts in a junkyard/online ended up dropping about 500 bucks for the whole thing. Headlights, headlight mounting assembly(also got from Dad's plant as 'defective'), new battery, new radiator/AC unit. Even managed to torque the frame nearly back into place using a tree and a come-along. Fun times. By the time we were finished it looked like nothing had happened at all.

DIY FTW 😀

on my car? maybe change oil, A/C coolant, etc. nothing major

in a class? I rebuilt an engine, although I'm not sure just how accurate it would be because it was for engines that we haven't been run in years and aren't planning on being used at all, it was a nice experience though

Hopefully getting my first car in a month or two. And i'll be doing all my work on it myself

(hopefully its gonna be an 02 xlt explorer)

Don't buy one until you drive it...I admit the one I drove was 90's, but I hated every minute of driving it. The thing's a boat, and not in a good Cadillac-land-yacht sort of way. More like a wallowing tramp steamer.

I once changed the clutch on my MR2, a job which basically requires dropping the engine, jacking the body up around it, and pulling it out. There's a way of changing it where you only drop one side of the engine, but since I was also changing the timing belt and waterpump, it was just easier to yank the whole thing out. Saved myself hundreds upon hundreds of dollars by doing it myself.

Turbo charged my v6, rebuilt the entire bottom end, alcohol injectors, psi up to 18 dyno'd 466 bhp and 482 torque

or ... was that a dream ? 🙁

I wish I wouldn't lose my threads so I could update mine. My CRX is almost done, the engine is swapped over and everything is hooked up and ready to go, just waiting on installing suspension and exhaust and getting those F#%*@!$ inner tie rods off.

I've done just about everything you can name including rebuilding several engines and hopping them up a LOT.

I know there are other motor heads out there as well, but I'm wondering how much the average poster on here has done....

I have rebuilt a 68 mustang from the ground up (first car), modded an early 80s challenger to fit a V6, and other maintenance schtuff.

Car wise?

Replacing transmission in my garage:

As far as bikes go, I've done everything... tore the whole thing apart for a frame & swingarm swap, new tail with subframe, new upper with the works, wired in digital speedo, hacked up a custom high mount etc etc.

The bike went from this:

1983 Chevy Malibu SW, new shocks all the way around, air shocks on rear, install oversize radiator, rebuilt alternator, new battery, recharge AC, new brakes all the way around, replace rear axel, replace oilpan gasket, rebuilt water pump, install halogen headlamps, new tapedeck and speakers, four new steel belted radial tires, plugs, rotor cap, air cleaner, new heater hoses and belts and installed radar/laser detector.

Then I went for a drive, 70 days and 13,000 plus miles later I pulled back into my driveway.

I've added a supercharger to my car. I also changed my headgasket and my differential. None of which were easy jobs.

Changed the starter on an '86 F250. Otherwise I haven't done much more than basic maintenance; oil, brakes, spark plugs, etc.

Very nice bike!

Put sound dampening stuff on all doors/trunk/floors/etc.
Lots of work but sounded great till it got wrecked.

Installed a AM/FM Cassette Deck, a 6 CD Changer, 2 Front & 2 Rear Speakers, and a 2 Channel Amplifier with 2 12" Subwoofers in a custom-built Box.

full ground up restoration of my first car...a 1970 Ford XW Falcon GT...we bought it up to Phase 2 specs (bout 360hp), it took 2 years to complete...and then my parents sold it on me with in a year because of my record ability to rack up speeding fines🙁

since then I have built plenty of Ford V8's (302 and 351 Cleveland V8's) and Ford 6 cylinders (250cu inline 6 crossflow head), plenty of Ford gearboxes and Diffs.

Almost everything. Swapped cams (dropped a lifter... god what a mistake), took 'em all the way apart (never actually did the rebuild). Cars are a good hobby for me, cheaper than computers.

What??

Anyway, I've put in a dash kit for my cd player, added infinity speakers(need to add two more) and got a new tire. I now need to find a pair shocks that won't completely rape my wallet.
