Whats the big deal with CS?

Ive been playing it for over a month now and cant for the life of me figure out why its so popular. Ive been heavy multiplayer since back in the day with Quake, but have never seen such a craze over a game like there is with CS. IMO, Its not THAT good...in fact, I find it mediocre at best. Heres my gripes...

1. The Weapons: There isnt enough varience between them. I mean its all pretty standard stuff, You got youre Shotguns, Pistols, Automatics, and Scopes. All of which within the same family really arent that much different and end up for the most part, and seem to be based on Luck and reflexes. Aim takes a back seat. Not to mention that a mod based on realism, is missing many key features like the Semi Automatic mode for the AK-47. Stuck in rock and roll? Come one....

2. Damage and "Glue Feet" when hit: I cant tell you how many times, Ive unloaded 6+ rounds of an MP5 into somones chest only to have them spin around and cap me in the head. Dont misunderstand, head hits should be instant kills, but so should 6+ rounds of an MP5. Oh and whats the deal with the Glue Feet feature when getting hit, you losing all forword momentum when getting hit in the back is stupid. I dont recall stepping in any tar in Aztec...

3. Waiting for respawn and Buying: Ok ok, this is just personal preferance but I cant stand waiting to get my ass back in the game but having to watch to lamers duck behind crates till the timer is out. Then on top of it having to re-buy everything. ARRRRRGGGG!!!! Counter Terrorist forces should always have a full compliment of Flashbangs and HE Grenades!! Need Favorites a-la Tribes2...

4.French Police skin: If youre going to put the French in a game at least gimme a button to roll into a fetal position and cry like a baby! REALISM FOLKS, REALISM!!

There you have it folks, HelloDeli's Gripes with CS. Feel free to agree and bash me for my blasphemy.

In my opinion CS was the best when it first came out. Recently I do not enjoy playing it at all. Back about two years ago was the best days in my honest opinion. Nowadays there are too many damn cheaters.

People still play that??
Guess it's because it can run on a 166/TNT.
The game still sucks though, if you're gonna waste time with that old technology, at least play Day of Defeat. :)

CS is getting old, but day of defeat went straight downhill with 2.0.

I can't believe they released that garbage.

I started playing CS when it first came out, beta 1... until just after they released the retail version. It got to the point where all the cheating made it a crappy game.

I started playing Urban Terror for Q3A about a month ago, and it is as good or better than CS was in its "heyday".

I've played the game for many hours and I think that aim is extremely important. Yes, the game is about reflexes and speed, but how can you make a FPS that's not? I realize that there are games like Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, etc., where the reflexes aren't quite as important, but in a game such as Counter-Strike which mixes both arcade and realistic play, reflexes have to a part of the game, there's no way around it. As far as aim goes, it's not just being able to point and click. It's about knowing the game and the weapons well enough to control the recoil of the weapons. How much to aim down or drag the mouse down while going full auto to maintain control of the weapon. If you've ever watched demos of the best players in the world, you'll see that they have incredible aim and can make headshots with only a few bullets from all the way across the map.

This was a "feature" implemented in version 1.4 of the game to eliminate bunny-hoppers. By removing the majority of the forward momentum, it's impossible to exploit the bunny-hopping bug (which many players feel is cheating - I do. A bug exploit is as good as cheating).

Why don't you like the new release? I thought it was awesome.

Plus, they fixed a lot of complaints/bug with 2.1

In theory its awesome but...

The new maps are absolute garbage. Most are too big. And theres too many places to camp.

Not to mention the machine gun, incredibly deadly, yet incredibly accurate over short distances. No recoil when deployed.

And thats the major point that ruined the game...recoil. Now I'm down with recoil, but the amount they put in is ridiculous. I can handle it, but it appears a lot of people cant. And the only way to lessen the recoil is to go prone.

But since youre so immobile prone, youre better off camping. Given that the maps allow so many places to camp, the game becomes a damn CAMP FEST.

And now that the sniper cant even kill in one hit most of the time, its impossible to weed out most campers at a distance.

The new guns are cool, but the sniper needs to be upped a bit, and the machine guns need to get nerfed hardcore. The game needs to stop being such a damn camp fest, and make it fun like it used to be. Because now, having courage and running out there is not rewarded by getting some decent kills, you just get shot down like a punk for making any sort of effort. Most people realized this...and it becomes even MORE of a camp fest....sigh....

Not to mention the damn recoil indicator in the crosshair not only has nothing to do with your actual accuracy, but it even gives false readings when slowing down. You have to wait a little bit longer from when it stops to shoot. Makes all the difference in the world.

what are you talking about this game has it all, when a bullet hits you in the back, it will go through you, and you wouldn't even move forward, probably, never getting shot I din't know, sure it's got some minor tweaking, but what other game is this real? Now ut mod that they came out with, those are all based on cs.

I thought 1.4 is the latest version. They just need to make better models. Also, you can't aim if you unload 6 rounds on someone and get capped in the head. I'm all desert eagle, one shot and ur dead, from anywhere, especially in 1.4, just crouch, and the cursor thing gets all small, and bang, headshot.....

It is because of CHEATS. That game was ok when it first came out, but it lost it soon after that.

I couldn't play CS for a couple of minutes, let alone a whole month! :Q But I'm not that much into games. Not a hardcore gamer, you see. For instance, I enjoyed more simple games such as Emperor:Battle for Dune (ouch this one is a divine, but a very time-consuming game, had to drop it), AVP2, played the RTCW through with no enthusiasm to the bitter end. I noticed a trend in modern games that they become more and more boring. Or perhaps it's just me.

ok, in real life if you get shot in the face with a glock, you won't die, it's a friggin 9 mm, and besides if I have a helmit on, nothing at all should happen.

you shouldn't be unloading 6 rounds to anyone. They were probably VERY low on health and they probably had armour on. Also if you aren't point black you probably missed a few of those bullets. The MP5 is weak in terms of damage in the game. Aim high and go for shoulder upwards to the head. The aiming is accurate. You need to be fast. There are some amazingly quick players that get you asap.

Its fun to play every now and then.

Buying the weapons has always been in the game. You get to be very fast so that hasn't bothered me.

CS isn't that great of a game now. Back from like 1-3 years ago was when it was at its best. That's when it was developed enough to have eliminated a lot of the stupid bugs and stuff as well as have the stuff everyone likes such as more weapons, maps, etc., but you didn't have thousands upon thousands of cheaters and kiddies playing. For the most part everyone was college age and above and even though you did have your immature retards it was nowhere near the level it is at today (I shouldn't say today, I stopped playing when 1.4 came out). IMO I think they seriously jacked the game up with 1.4, to me it's much slower paced and there just isn't the same elements that made it fun before. I honestly think the best version was probably beta 7 (Minus the APC on siege) or 1.0. 1.3 was OK as it was basically 1.0 at the core with a few changes but of course that was when the cheating really exploded.

If buying stuff really bothers you that much just download or set up your own buy scripts. Not too difficult.
