I'm no big fan of religion in general, but Scientology is really out there... As others have mentioned, it's essentially a pay-as-you-go religion which employs brainwashing tactics, preaches that neurotransmitters, scientifically proven to exist, don't exist and, iirc, they want you separated from your family... That's just the tip of the iceberg, I was reading a long thread about it on another forum and it's really amazingly whacky. You might say the major world religions are whacky too, and while I wouldn't argue with you, and while I also wouldn't say most followers are properly interpreting them, the texts they're based on preach many of the same values I hold (value your family, don't screw over your fellow man, yadda yadda).
I don't mind they cult behavior...but the fact that they believe we were put on this earth by aliens makes me laff

If you want to say "not all christains hate gays" or "not all christians blow up cars", I'm pretty sure that "not all scientologists sue people who disagree with them", etc.
You don't get to exclude the parts of christianity that you don't like, they're still a part of the religion. If you can use every bad thing that scientologists do in the name of scientology, then I can do the same with christianity.
Note: I'm not trying to pick on Christianity specifically, I just have more familiarity with it than other major religions. I know a lot of Muslims do stupid things like blow people up as well.

Scientology is worse because it's based on the BS in Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard.
L. Ron Hubbard used to be a pretty good SCI-FI (science fiction) author. It's not a stretch of the imagination to think that he could devise a completely BS "science of the mind" like Dianetics.
When it grew into a large organization he turned it into a religion or "The Church of Scientology" for the tax break afforded to such organizations. It's really quite simple if you think about it.
It's worse because it's NOT REAL. It's a SCAM by a talented con artist.

It's just sooooo much easier to see the BS in the case of scientology since it hasn't had thousands of years to cover up it's rather unethereal beginnings.

The cult, religion, whatever you want to call it is made for nut jobs. My g/f saw a scientology video a year ago. Some guy just stopped her in the street and tried converting her there and then onvited her to see a video.The first scene of the video dealt with the claim that God does not exist and that Jesus is a false hope. It may sound iffy, but the video actually went as far as to mock the crucifiction. If they wanted to convert a christain to scientology, they went in the wrong direction.

Look, America is founded on freedom of religion and religious practices. Well it's one foundation. I know this message board is visited regulrly by non-Americans but it's still an American based website. Thre should be no religious bashing no matter how absurd you think it is.
Personally, I'm agnostic and I personally believe ALL religions are absurd. Yet, I'm not going to create threads bashing and degrading them unless they are doing something really bad like eating their own young or something. If they aren't taking away life, property, or other things covered in the constitution as our rights to have then they can be as whacky as they want. More power to them.

Its pretty much all about leveling up people. Maybe you guys suck so much cause your still level 1. If you get someone to power level you, you may just achieve something close to the level of Tom Cruise. I say start a party and get hacking.
Apparently when you first join up with scientology you have lots of interviews to locate/remove 'bad energy' and all that with bullsh!t equipment like the e-meter . In these sessions you must talk about your darkest moments, the lowest points in your life, what makes you unhappy, etc. Basically, after these interviews the scientologists know a hell of a lot about you and can then use this information against you. This is why I feel for Tom Cruise. The guy's got half a brain and I'm sure not after long he realised that scientology is the biggest scam there is out there, but because he's famous and they know so much about him he's trapped into continuing to 'believe' and speak well of the scientology '''religion'''.

They do such practices as speading word/posters around your neighbourhood that you're a paedophile or a wife-beater, and other such slander. Some fantastic examples can be found on a website called Xenu TV. Check out the various videos.

They have a lot of power and use it in every manner they can, legal or otherwise, to promote their faith and defend themselves (by attacking enemies).
