Some say pencil, some say conductive pen, some say rear window defogger kit, which is it?

Long term, try either the defogger kit or pen. There are conflicting reports about the suitability of the pencil trick. Conductive pens are expensive, mind you. I paid $18CDN for mine. They're hard to find, to boot.

However, apply very carefully with a fine-tipped something. Those bridges are mighty small, and I had to redo mine a couple of times before I was sure that I didn't short something I wasn't supposed to, and I'm used to small detail work.

I personally like the pencil idea more. I used it on my Duron. The L1 bridges are VERY VERY small. If you use pencil, it is quite easy just to erase your mistake if you accidentally cross the pins. Graphite is pretty durable and will surely last once applied.

I calculated the conductivity of a mechanical pencil. I think it was around 50 Ohm/cm. with an L1 bridge cut being only a fraction of a millimeter, this is effectively a short and thus the reason it works.

Either way will work fine, I just like the simplicity and ease of mistake correction with pencil.

I used the pencil trick, I dont think my hands are steadier that anyone else's, but I did it on mine as well as a friends and both worked perfectly, and have continued to do so since.

I used the pencil trick, just bought a pack of #2 pencils from Wal-Mart for like 98 cents. I did it right the first time, because I've had my multiplier unlocked for the better part of 3 months now. The thermal grease does nothing to mine, because I only applied it to the actual die on the processor, and the L1 bridges are seperate of that.

Some people have said it has rubbed off, but I really don't see how, unless they take the processor on and off constantly. If you are like me, and only get inside your case to install a component every once and a while, then just use the pencil. Ease of correction makes it the best method if it is your first time doing it.

I used the loctite ($9 cad) and it works great. I shake like hell so it took me about 10 tries before I was confident that it would'nt short out. I had to use my sons garfield magnifying glass to see if the bridges were connected and clean of any residual loctite. I used 90/10 mixture of ethanol/methanol to clean up after my mistakes but nail polish remover (acetone) works good to. This duron 600 ($82 cad) is running at 900 at 42C
(not under stress) with a coolermaster H/S and fan.
