What's the best way to remove stickers?

It seems like every new piece of hardware I get -- from computer parts to CDs/DVDs -- have stickers on them. I don't know about you, but I always manage to rip the sticker when it's about halfway peeled off. Then the hardware is left with ripped paper and sticker goo...it's gross. The most recent one was my brother's new laptop power cord that had a big sticker-tag on it...now the cord is all sticky on that end.

So...what's the best way to get stickers off? I'd prefer a non-chemical solution, because sometimes keyboards and mice have stickers and I use them a lot...I'd rather not have acetone or something on my hands while reading email and eating lunch 🙂 But, if the chemical works, then by all means post away, I can always use soap to wash it off. Hopefully I won't fry my small electronic gizmos just to get the stickers off 😉

hehe TIA...

You might try "GOO-GONE". Supposed to work quite well for getting rid of adhesive residue. Acetone works, but is probably overkill (and can be damaging to plastics).

I've used something called Goof Off or Goop Off.
I can't remember the exact name but I have a can of it
somewhere. It smells like crap and would clear you out if
you have a cold, but it works. You just have to be careful
not to let it set on the item you are trying to remove the
residue. It can eat plastic, but if you apply it conservatively
it can work great wonders 🙂

I bet that Goo Gone smells alot better and probably works
just as well. I'll have to check it out.
