What's the best way to compress a DVD to divx?

Firstly, I apologize for bringing up an old thread. I accidentally replied to a thread I found while doing an unrelated search. Anyway:


Dooooooodammit I hate that Censored Word thing. Twice now, and neither time I copied the text to the clipboard. Feeling kind of stupid now.
I'm going to enter this in line by line to find the censored word, since the error window doesn't tell me what it is. (Oh for god's sake, VF/\PI is the problem - the other F-word is embedded within that acronym. Stupid, stupid computers.)

Condensed version of what I've typed TWICE now:

- DVD Decrypter to rip the disc.
- DGMPGDec to prep the DVD VOB's and decode the AC3 data.
- VFAPI codec to prepare DGMPGDec's .M2V file for reading by standard video editors.
- Virtualdub, with XviD set to 2000kbps, and LAME MP3 audio at 160kbps. Good quality, with a good reduction in filesize over the original VOB's.
