holy crap that's alot of posts... I can see his finger hitting the "post" key like a little jackhammer. :)

I think that idea about the maximum speed limit differs by state. And I am confident that at least in Oregon the limit is always the maximum speed you can drive without violating the law.

I have also heard that 12 MPH over the limit is the magic number where a cop will pull you over, supposedly that's where the price of the ticket is greater than the cost of the court proceeding, but I'm not sure about that.

Lastly one of the best ways to avoid getting a ticket if you're pulled over is to be bouncing in your seat like you're about to pee your pants as the officer walks up to the car. Explain that you REALLY have to pee and ask if he can follow you to your house or the nearest restroom and give you a ticket there. Most caops won't bother, and it also gives you a fairly legitimate excuse to be pushing the gas just a little harder than usual.. :)

Here is one to try! I got pulled over in a speed trap. Now they were pulling over several cars at once, so I am not sure how well this will if you get pulled over alone. I asked to see the calibration sticker on the radar gun and the paperwork that goes with it. I was told to do this by a friends father who is a cop. I did and the cop got mad and told me that I could see the calibration sticker and paperwork in court. He then took my registration and liscence back to his car and filled out the ticket. When he came back he asked me if I had any questions and asked me to sign the ticket. I asked to see the clibration sticker and the paperwork again, reminding him that I was allowed by law to see the speed I was clocked. He got mad, wrote "refused to sign" on the ticket, and threw my stuff at me including the ticket and walked away. So I sat in the speed trap for a minute examining the ticket. He came back and told me I can leave, I said "I know" and sat for another minute. Examining the ticket, i saw that there was a spot for the radar gun number on the ticket. The cop had left it blank by accident.
Well I went to court and there was about 50 people there. The judge comes in and says " anyone wishing to plead guilty to a speeding thicket they are here to fight can do so now." He offer to lower the speed on the tickets to one mile over the speed limit and explained that the tickets would not be turned into insurance agencies for one mile over the speed limit. A few people went for the deal. Later it was my turn in front of the judge, a cop is in the witness stand and is reading from the tickets what happend. He gos to read mine and say that I was speeding along the road where I got the ticket doing 15MPH over the limit. Then he went to read off the gun he used to clock me but couldn't because he forgot to write it down. The judge dismissed the ticket and I got off clean!
So if you bug the cop enough you may frustrate him enough to screw up. Also ask to see the calibration. Some cops will just let you go casue the equipment is not calibrated properly(this happens alot). The best thing to do is not get caught!

I know that in Missouri if the sign says "Speed Limit 60" that's really the limit. You can be stopped for doing 61. Of course it isn't enforced that closely. Don't get a lawyer for the ticket, just represent yourself. If you don't get out of before they make you plea, plead not guilty and take whatever they give you. You'll probably be out court costs and and such, but at least it doesn't go on your record. My SIS (suspended imposition of sentence, i.e. be good and don't get caught or both go on your record) ends in January. I got that and driving school.

<<What I do is follow a guy that is also speeding at the rate I want to go, just keep your distance>>

I'm talking about an 1/8 of a mile difference, don't tail gate him, just pretend you're on an assignment to follow him without him noticing.

I call that finding a blocker and running for the endzone :)

Despite what some have said statitically it is %50 that the cop will not show to the court date so already your 50/50, then mistakes lowers it even further and finally in front of judge you can try to plead it down or get no point violations etc.
Always go to court if you can.
