Fletcher Reede: New in the building?
Woman in elevator: Yes. I just moved in Monday.
Fletcher Reede: Oh. Do you like it so far?
Woman in elevator: Oh yes. Everyone's been real nice to me.
Fletcher Reede: Well, that's because you have big jugs.
[Both the woman and Fletcher are totally shocked at what he just said.]
Fletcher Reede: I mean your boobs are huge. I mean I want to squeeze them.
[Still aghast at what he's saying.]
Fletcher Reede: Mama.

Do you ask her if she's single first, or just go for it and then let her say, "sorry i have a boyfriend" or whatever?

I'd ask if she was single first. Then depending on her response, go from there.

What about the question of getting her number vs. giving your number?

Don't try to chase, give them your number. A lot of women are uncomfortable when it comes to giving out their number to a guy they've just met and pretty ones are constantly made uncomfortable by guys. You don't want to make her feel uncomfortable.

Not a good idea to ask. You make it way too easy for her lie. Like I said, pretty girls get hit on all the time and you'll get rejected often simply because she has her shields up. If she has a boyfriend and is planning on staying with him, she'll let you know. It might not be until you ask for her number, but that doesn't matter. At worst, you got some practice meeting someone new and will see it's not so bad.

I just don't see any positives to asking that question first thing off. It'll likely put her on the defensive and won't accomplish anything for you.

+1 for the OP to say this:thumbsup:

1. Make a nice comment on her blouse
2. Take her out to dinner at someplace very nice (probably the combo platter at Sizzler)
3. Finger pick a love song on the guitar
4. Take her to your dojo and pork
5. Wail on guitar...HARD!

In all seriousness, I wouldn't normally just walk up to a random person and say "hi". You have to have something to get "in". Like, "sorry to bother you, I just wanted to say that you have very gorgeous...eyes, hair, smile, etc."
Also, I would NOT start right away with "Hey, do you have a boyfriend". It puts her on the defensive right away...and also she can use the "sorry I have a boyfriend" line if she doesn't want to go out with you.
If you do get a decent convo going, don't blow it and go on too long. Just simple ask if you can have her number, if she wants your number if it makes her more comfortable, or if she'd like to meet at such and such place and such and such time for coffee (don't just right into dinner).

I don't go into it looking to get a date, I just go into it for the conversation.

I've talked to girls standing in line at the bank, stores, airport, whatever. I'm bored and usually they are to. Even if nothing comes of it, I just made my wait that much more pleasant.
