(for home video editing)

I'm currently using Pinnacle Studio, but I'm wondering if another app is better? So, anybody have any opinions? What editing software do you use? Do you like it?

How's? Adobe Premiere? How are the video editing apps from Ulead and Sonic Foundry?

Just trying to get an idea of what people like/dislike.

Thanks.

It depends what you want to do. VirtualDub is a terrific program, particularly when used with TMPGenc, but it doesn't permit you to edit MPEG 2 files, at least not without converting them to AVI, then back after editing. Premire is well supported, and there are many third party plug-ins to enhance the product. Ulead's VideoStudio 6.0 is a capable MPEG editor and can do transitions and the like. MediaStudio 6.5, also by Ulead, has a full-featured video editor as well as companion programs that can do sound editing, video painting, and complex titling sequences, and can take the finished MPEG 2 files and burn them to a DVD-readable CD (or DVD, if you have a DVD burner). Vegas Video has the video editing tools plus extraordinary audio editing capabilities. All of the above programs have demos available, so if you think one or another sounds best suited for your needs, you can download and try it.

if your on a budget get Vegas video's little brother Video Factory for $69 dowanloadable if you do mpeg2 you can register the plug-ins for a small fee.

virtualdub is ok to conver and do minor editing but it's no Vegas. as for others like premiere, pinacle, media or video studio which I have used in the past, they are complicated and a pain in the ass to use if you ask me compared to Vegas or Factory.

If all you need todo is render video then ok tmpgenc or virtualdub but to edit or do non linear editing you need some juice.
