Whats the best VIA KT333 board?

I just built a system with an EPoX 8k3a (raid) and have nothing but good things to say about this board... stable, nice OC features, cool software, etc.

I don't know if it is the best but I am satisfied with the Epox 8K3A+. Overclocks well, stable, high fsb, an overvolt for cpu without any modding of mobo.

3 slots? Yea, but I bet you can use all three without having to worry about sharing problems. All the goodies are stuffed on the MoBo, and SCSI and what else??? Who's going to be the first to buy. The price for being an Abit guinea pig is only $175 USD for a VIA based MoBo! (Repeat: $175 USD for stinkin' VIA based motherboard) Sheesh...it"s just got to work, right?

the epox is tempting, i hear they are hyped though. i think i might pay the extra $30 and get the ASUS A7V333. It has 4x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 1.1 connectors. Lots of USB to go around. Aswell as an additional PCI slot compared to the epox. i currently have a Asus CUSL2 for my p3-850. I've had a little trouble with some irq conflicts, but it's quite stable otherwise. I'm not really into overclocking especially with hot AMD chips i definatley wont be oc'ing my athlon xp. Does the epox have something equivilant to the asus CPU Overheating Protection? I hope anandtech has a KT333 round up soon.

whats with all these boards coming with onboard 6 channel audio, it's crap right? i'm noting going to be putting my phillips acoustic edge on the shelf am i?

Asus and Soyo have an excelent onboard audio...

And ASUS has a thermal protection - I'd like to see all boards with this.

I just rebuilt my machine with a KT3 ARU, it went very smoothly, in fact the only problem that I had was the fact that I couldn't find the option to turn off the fan speed detection (i don't have a fan on the cpu header) but i found it when i updated the bios.

Despite the fact that everything went so nicely, I just sold the board. It was nice, but it wasn't anything that jumps out at you. I also wan't able to get the VCore above 1.7v. So I now have a A7V333-R on the way. I am was reluctant to change, but the few review out there about the A7V333 boast better things than the review of the KT3 ARU. I don't really want to have to set the VCore by jumpers, but there is said to be a combination allowing 2.3v.

As far as the KT3 its a great board, I would highly recommend it, it seemed to OC well, but the voltage limits that. Very stable, lots of features, and the sound is great. I really don't like onboard sound, but it sounded as good or better than my SBLive........

another vote for the epox 😀

very nice board... fast and stable, not to mention if you decide to overclock its got all the features you want/need

What!... and the Asus is not hyped on price 😉,my vote is for Epox.

🙂

I'm leaning toward the KT3 ULTRA-ARU right now for an upcoming purchase. It has sooo many goodies packed onto that nice red PCB that would look perfect in my case window. decent OCing, good stability, RAID, etc. Seems to be a good purchase to me. Also considering the Abit KR7A-RAID. mmmmm, 6 pci slots and 4 ram slots. tasty.

Today, I would purchase an ASUS A7V333 - it's well revised, have a thermal protection, an excellent onboard audio... - the best option in my opinion.

I'm waiting for the Soyo K7V Dragon Ultra, but don't see much info on a release date. My second choice would be the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (No LAN) and third, the Gigabyte GA-7XRXP (dual bios, creative sound and LAN)

My vote would go for either the Gigabyte GA-7XRXP or the Asus A7V333. Both are excellent choices. I have not used the EPoX KT333 board yet, so I can't comment on that.

Am happy with performance and features of the GA-7VRXP, although XP Pro setup simply wouldn't accept the Promise RAID drivers 20276 XP). It's probably resolvable, but in the current setup (ATA), it's a great piece of hardware. I'm still not convinced I got *that* much better performance from RAID0 in my previous KT7-Raid rig, so it's not a biggie, just functionality that is redundant right now 😉 Have previously stuck with Abit & Asus, but wanted to get away from the "norm" and go with a different brand. Bottom line: no regrets.

Rgds.

I have the Epox 8K3A (non-raid). One of the best motherboards I've used to date. Rock solid stable, fast, and has loads of tweaking/overclocking features. I highly recommend it.

I was thinking of waiting for the Soyo Dragon Ultra too, which is due out this month. I read there will also be a "Lite" version, which would hopefully be more affordable.

This is the first thread i've read where soyo was mentioned. Does anyone else have an opinion on soyo mobos? reviews seem favorable overall (except for price) and people who bought the Dragon+ at newegg.com seem really happy with their purchases.

Any thoughts?

I thought the GA-7VRXP was great, except it has no anti-burn control, no heat alarm, nothing. Isn't this a really serious offense?
