What's the best TV in the 32" to 36" Range? (Under $900 :) )

The remote sensor has died on the family 27" TV in the living room. Now my dad is looking into getting a 36" TV. We have seen some RCA's, Toshiba's... what's a decent TV that size?

We agreed that projection TV's suck, and we're going to stick with the Tubes. So let me know what you know as/ or think of being the best TV for the money 🙂.

Thanks!

yeah, wega.

/me is looking into the 32" model with front inputs and svideo =)

of course a new TV is years away, which means i have to get an HDTV unit. =(

Their are allready 3 wega clones (flat screen/silver case) is stores right now, with a Thoshiba HD ready direct view comming out next month to add to the fray. I am going to wait until the Wega clone market stablizes and then pick the best one.

Hey, if you're such a "TuffGuy", what's with the frilly pink doo? 😛

But anyway, If you want the best, you'll have to take a look at the SONY XBR line. Costs twice as much as the WEGAs ($1,987 for the 36" XBR)! The Wega is nicer looking than the regular Trinitron's, but I'll bet the Trinitron is the best bang for the buck. Hmmm, just checked and I may be wrong. You're looking at $939 for the 35" Trinitron and $1,222 for the 36" WEGA. Tuff choice...

Hmm.... I should of been more specific 😉.

No Wega's 🙂. My dad was looking to spend around $850.00. Wega's are nice, but normal tubes will have to do 🙂.

If you want the best TV then get a Sony WEGA but I doubt you'll find one for $850 or less.

The best TV in your price range would be a Toshiba or JVC, they both offer the best performance bang for your buck.

If you buy from 800.com you can save up to 20% off which is a super sweet deal.

I know some A/V people who really know their sh*t I'll ask them tomorrow which model is the best between Toshiba and JVC, 32" and 36"ers.

Thanks 🙂.

I know a buddy of mine has already had work done on his 35" RCA... might be a sign to stay away. 😕

Another vote for the Sony Trinitron FD VVega, those are beautiful TV's. Also, check out the new Philips flat screen TV's, I've had good experiences with other products by Philips. At this point, definitely go for a flat screen, and try to get something that is capable of processing digital TV signals.

Remember these guys?

Crazy Eddie

They seem to have really good prices. The 36" Wega XBR I want is selling for less than $2,000. I have absolutely no idea how legit they are that's why I am reluctant to order from them.

If anyone has experience with them let me know.

It's not VVega damnit, it's Wega. Don't people ever listen?

For under $900, go with a Toshiba Cinema Series. If you could, the Wega would be nice, but I personally wouldn't go with one besides the XBR, which would run about $1700-$2500 depending on size. 🙂

PiP is nice, but not need. If it does have it dual-tuners are not needed. S-Video in is a must (and is on most), surround-sound would be nice 🙂. Mainly looking for which TV has the best picture and relability of the different makes.

My roommate has a VVega and the picture looks a tad distorted in the corners (forget which ones). Also the refresh rate is relatively poor. Does anyone know what's up with this?
