What's the best thing you've bought for your computer?

Either my PS/2 MS IntelliMouse 1.1A (a plain 2-button MS Mouse came with my 1994 Gateway 2000 P-90, but after a few RMA's just before the 3-year warranty ran out, they sent this one instead) or my Sony GDM-400PS 19" monitor. The mouse has lasted me 3 years already, and I don't know of anything else that is as good (to me) for gaming, control, and feel except maybe the IntelliMouse Pro (discontinued). I purchased the monitor (for $555 shipped) at the end of last summer and it's a great upgrade from 15" (which I used from 1994 to 1999) and from 17" (which I used for 3/4 year in 1999). I was also considering the Hitach Superscan 751 19", but I paid $80 more for the Sony because I simply HAD to have the Active Signal Correction button 🙂

The best thing I got for my computer was getting a cable modem. Though I'm more or less renting it.

I'll have to say my Voodoo3 (though I don't use it any more)

My Voodoo1 would be a close second..there was nothing quite as jaw dropping as my first run at Quake2 up from software mode (I got my V1 pretty late I was past GLQuake)

But my V3 is still playable in anything I want to play and gave me a huge boost for my K6-2/350 to play games

I really like my Radeon though. It's very pretty and plenty fast, it also keeps my CPU usage nice and low for DVD playing so that RC5 has more cycles to use 😉

My high quality monitor was nice to, I think it's Panasonic, might be Sony I can't remember off hand (it's some weird OEM, but it says on the label who actually made it..I just don't feel like pulling it out and looking). It's only 17" but it's very clear and crisp (it will do 1600x1200 and it's only a 17" not bad huh?) that only 14" POS I had that washed out all the colours, had a higher dp than most TVs...

Or my keybaord? Those long hours of programming were getting seriously painful (though to be perfectly honest..I think the wrist wrest makes more difference than the split key layout)

It's rather hard to pick one thing..there are many things that my computer would be useless to me without.

Voodoo 1 (First card I ever installed and that's what got me hooked to upgrading)

Then ofcourse- Cable, Mitsubishi 22" DP2020u, Plextor 12x10x32

The best thing I've bought for my computer would probably be my speakers. Labtec LCS-2514 five speaker surround sound. They only cost me $100 (CDN.) and I get great sound out of them. My games and music have never sounded better! 😀

I've seen, and listened to, more expensive speakers from Cambridge and Yamaha and mine sound just as good (in my opinion). 🙂

dunno if its the *best* but it has lasted the longest and for the cost of 10 bux it was a hell of a deal... my 3com NIC

The 'best' thing I've purchased for my computer would have to be the item which had the most effect on overall speed compared to it's price . That would be the K6-3+ CPU I installed last week, which is now running at 600Mhz. It cost me $47 shipped (from PC Liquidators) and has almost literally doubled the speed of my computer, which was previously running a K6-2 500@550. Whee! 🙂

My Samsung 900NF monitor....a close second is my Voodoo3 3500TV. That videocard never gave me any problems and has great 2D speed and clarity at 10280x1024.

Wow, that is wide screen! 😉

Maybe silly, but true: my Sony Spressa CDRW. I change machines every November, and that baby on this 700 was with me on the 400 and will follow to my 1.2 🙂

Second video card and monitor. Once you go dual-screen, it pains you to go back.

I'm on cable too and that certainly has it's perks (Napster, anyone?)

Hehehe, maybe when the V2 came out (2 1/2 years ago), I paid $300 for my Wicked 3D Voodoo 2, which I still have and will always have cause that $300 hurts.

Peace,
Nore

My lovely Global chair. It's five years old and still confy.

Now if I could only figure out an easy way to get rid of all that hair on the wheels.... I'm thinking about torching it.
