What's the best thing you've bought for your computer?

Respectivly to this thread, What's the best thing you've bought for your computer?

Mine would either be two recent purchases,

1) My Videologic DigiTheatre 5.1 for £210, or 2) my Althon 900Mhz for £202

Athlon550 or GeForce DDR(I work with 3D😉)

Both are aging now, and will be replaced soon, but they increased the performance in my most important area ten fold over my old setup(PII with TNT). Anyone who works with modeling will understand...

My A7V + 900 T-bird. And my Annihilator Pro. Both kick major ass. It lets me play 90FPS at 1024x768x32 max setting in Quake 3.... what else do I need for now.

Seagate 18gig Ultra2 SCSI HDD w/ Tekram 390U2B Host Adapter.

The speed difference coming from a 5400 ultraATA medalist pro almost feels like I'm being pinned back in my computer chair 🙂

Like I said in the other thread, HP 812C - outstanding printer for the price.

Also my HP 8100 burner - expensive as hell, but its done its duty 🙂

And no I dont work for HP. 😛

Recent CD-RW & scanner purchases. Although upgrading to a GeForce DDR card almost a year ago from a V2 card was a close second.

P3 700e @1050mhz 1.65 volts cost $170 shipped
Geforce 2 GTS 64meg cost $237.50 shipped
MGC 19" monitor cost $280 delivered to my door

I have to say the monitor I am about to purchase will be the best thing for my system. Just think about it, if you were running on a crappy monitor, the rest of your computer would not matter at all. I am running on a 7 year old 17 inch Sony Trinitron monitor that skips in and of color every five minutes, the screen vibrates every 10 minutes, and my eyes hurt after using for over an hour.

hmm tough one..

probably my K6-2 400 CPU.. went from a P133 to that without the change in mobo!

after that, I'd have to say my Voodoo Banshee (got it when I still had my P133, it let me play most games very well), Voodoo 3 (for games now adays), and my extra 64megs SDRAM.. having 96 megs is a good thing, and I only wish I could up that to 256...

ooh.. another good one.. Upgrading my hard drive from an old 200meg HD (I think it was from Quantum), to a 4.3 gig FUJITSU hd.. that was an amazing performance increase (even though it has NO cache), and I hope to get a jump like that again soon..

ahh then comes the money problem..

EDIT: error in my RAM number!

Probably my Banshee, which was still doing the trick for me till my VA-503+ quit out. Before the Banshee, I had a 1MB PCI Trident video card. No gaming on that little son of a bitch. :Q

Having 96MB memory helped a lot too, prior to getting that I only had 40 or 48MB EDO memory. I didn't have to change my board to upgrade to Banshee or to 96MB SDRAM.

Edit: Forgot all about my HD. That was probably the most worthwhile upgrade ever. Bought a Quantum LM 20.5GB. Damn sweet hard drive, many many times better than any HD I've ever bought in the past.
