What's the best store to return an unopened item without a receipt?

I don't want cash. I just want store credit for a couple of unopened PS2 games I purchased.

What's the best store to do this in? Walmart? Target? Best Buy?

<< ...this sounds fishy to me...

Why don't you take them back to where you bought them from?
>>

I bought them online. It's sucks to have to ship them back.

So you'd rather be dishonest and take them back to a store even though you didn't get them from there in the first place?

You bought them online, you ship them back - its your responsibility.

Thanks for the advice. Walmart it is.

<< whyd you buy em in the first place, then not even end up opening/playing them?? seems like a waste to me? >>

They were not for me. I don't own a PS2. They were for my nephew's birthday. But his mother already picked the same games.

Then get her reciept for them, go to the store she bought them from, and return hers. Then, buy two new games.

Easier said than done. She lives several states away.

Anyway, I found my answer at another site, so this thread can be locked. Thanks for the useless qestions, guys.

No problems! Next time you want advice on doing something illegal just give us a shout and we'll be pleased to help :|

Easy. Shove it to the cashier at McDonald and demand full price for the items with duress. I hope you go to prison. One less self-centered ignorant moron off the face of earth.

Cry me a river. You have no right to screw some store whatever your excuse maybe. AFAIK, you're not returning the product. You're trying to prevent your personal loss(shipping) incurring from your own negligence by fraudulent action.

This might be the off-topic forums, but this place is not a school of how to commit fraud, nor are we a teacher, that teaches tips and know how of fraudulent merchandice returns.

By the way, it's morons like you that causes return policy to get more stricter every time. They let people return items without receipts for who genuinely lost receipts to items they bought there. With credit cards, it's pretty easy since they have it on file, but Wal*Mart let you return something you paid for in cash?!?!

I'd be real sorry for them if they don't al least take a photocopy of your DL.

Yep, I'll be going to prison for returning Grand Theft Auto 3 and Metal Gear Solid 2 at Walmart.

I'm sure they will never re-sell those unpopular items.

Woah there buddy... tell us how you really feel.

A concept that is lost on some people.

wow you guys are FAWKING tools!!!!!!!

who the hell cares if he returns a game to a corporate giant of a store! he's not stealing! he's returning! who cares that it wasn't from the same store!?

<< I hope you go to prison. One less self-centered ignorant moron off the face of earth. >>

I could see what kind of Nazi regime you would be running if you were president!! "Attentions citizens, a new law has been passed where switching tags is now punishible by death!"

of course, if i were president...i'd make sure "Being the biggest internet tool and the most annoying person at ATOT" was punishible by death.

walmart sells Grand Theft Auto 3? they won't even sell music with explicit lyrics. Better check and see if they actually have it before you return.

Take it back to Wal-Mart. Believe me, they will accept anything. I work there. You could probably return an opened box of tissues, and they'd take it back. Especially the one manager where I work. People ask for him by name now, he'll take ANYTHING back.

Yes, they also do sell GTA3.

I fail to see how that would be theft taking it back to Wal-Mart. I am a manager at one. He is exchanging merchandise that the store can easily resell for store credit. Some people need to get a clue.

Then you wouldn't last long, would you?

This has gotta be the funniest + moodiest thread in a while 😀

mflacy is not doing anything that terrible, the store he takes it back to it gonna resell it anyway and he will probably end up buying something worth more than the credit anyway so they won't lose out that bad....plus agreed on the massive corporate thing.

😀

If she bought them from a large corporate store, could she have not posted the receipts to you though?

To be fair....how many of the anandtech members have used or do use priated software or have exceeded licensing on occasion, from a sterile legal point of view those things are worse.

yer a moron. Lets say you return it and get back $50. Lets say they normally buy them for $30. Assuming they don't run out of stock on either item when somebody wants to buy it their selling the copy you're returning makes them only break even so you've cost them $20 on each game.

<< he's not stealing! he's returning! who cares that it wasn't from the same store!? >>

Read what I wrote above.

<< He is exchanging merchandise that the store can easily resell for store credit. >>

Yet another person who doesn't understand the very basics of how Wlamart makes money.

<< wow you guys are FAWKING tools!!!!!!! >>

i agree completely, your guys' moral compass is whacked out hes not stealling, he just trading it for store credit, if he takes it to walmart he has lost no business for them, in fact its just an inventory swap for them, Walmart doesnt take any losess for themselves and will gain a happy customer. You freakin idiots.

HELO! These items are UNOPENED. We're not talking about returning something that is opened or used. We're not talking about using the store as a "rental" agency.

These games are unopened and in condition to be sold as new. If the store's return policy permits it (and they often do for store credit), he's hardly screwing them.
