Well, can't get much for $17. But my friend purchased an all copper HSF (with fan) at Fry's for $19.95 and was happy cooling his AMD XP1600+ with an ECS K7S5A motherboard.

Model is ATT KCP27+ YS602 (at least that's what is on the box).

His CPU temps were around 38c. (We used Artic Silver III also).

Only uses single mounting stud clip.

Might want to take a look at it.

Thanks.

Refrain from going to Taco Bell one day, and apply the extra 5.00 to your 17.00 bank roll. You can pick up a Thermalright SK6+ from SVC for 19.99 + ship.

underrated company at best.
I love CoolerMaster. I'd buy them again for sure. (I have an HHC-001) and it's an excellent cooler.
possibly look at TaiSol or Vantec also, considering your budget.

GC69 is about $17 shipped with a fan, maybe slightly more from svc.com. Very good cooler at a nice price.

CoolerMaster's heatsinks are real sleepers. I think they're a much better product that many give them credit for. You should also check out the Vantecs at 2cooltek.

I hate Volocano 9's. First off, they are too big for the little cooling they do. I use Vantec Aeroflow for my AMD Athlon XP 2k+. It offers more cooling, a quieter, yet FASTER fan, and more air is being moved thru the heatsink. Air is also channeled out thru each side instead of being blown straight down into the heatsink. But I have to admit, the 80mm fan that Thermaltake has on thier Volcano 9 and 11 with the speed control is nice. The price for both of them are rediculous though. You should also look at Cooler Masters new line of X-Dream coolers. Thermalright is good also, but I've never bought one. Zalman is a little expensive, but it is worth it. I use a Zalman Flower Heatsink on my Pentium 4. Hardcoreware.net has a review of the Vantec Aeroflow, Cooler Master's X Dream (wierd name, I know), and the new Thermaltake Volcano 11.

I hate thermaltake products period. Just get an SK6 for $10 and a cheap Sunnon 40CFM 80mm fan for $5, thats $15 for awesome cooling! (from svcompucycle.com)

HAC-V81 is very cheap at newegg ($18 shipped), and does a great job on my overclocked 1700 XP "A". I lapped it, but OC'ed to 1800 it is idle at 38C and runs Prime95 at 41C. Search for some reviews out there, you will only get 1-2, maybe 3-4 degrees from some of the other "high end" ones.

I should note, you'll definitely want to lap it. Mine was very rough, but polished up real nicely. Honestly I don't think you can bet the price/performance on this, even with overclocking :) But I'm biased...

I'm running a coolermaster HHC-001. Very nice HSF man, you should check it out. A little more money though. The 'V' models of the coolermaster are nice also. You gotta love the mirror finish on these heatsinks :)

I would say u look for any hs/fan that is copperbase. Also, for all the thermaltake haters, I say u give the volcano 7+ a chance. I may not use it anymore (for i have an slk800 hs now,) but the volcano 7+ did the job quite well.
