What's the best security product for protecting an LCD at college?

Make a little sticky note that says:

Do Not Touch The LCD Screen

Lock your door and deadbolt the window if you have one. However, if someone really wants it I am sure they will find a way to take it.

Get one of those big 100-pound fire safes, like for important documents, family pets you want to keep safe in a fire, condoms, whatever...uh nevermind. Anyway, get one of them and lock the screen in it. Or stuff your roommate, should he/she be the offender, into the safe.

Or post a sticker on it that says "Broken" or something like that.

Chain it to the desk? Put beartraps all over it? I dont know. It probably wouldnt be a good idea to leave your door unlocked if you think it has a high risk of getting stolen. Usually it will be harder for people to steal the LCD if they can't get in the room in the first place.

My friend's dad didn't buy him an LCD for college specifically for this reason - anyone could eaily pick it up and walk away considering how light they are....

A lot of LCD's have those little nub holes for those cables that are used to secure laptops. It's pretty easy just to rip it out, it'll destroy the casing around the hole, but it might make some people think twice about swiping it and it might slow someone down if they do try.

A motion detector and a Claymore mine. Next best is to keep it in a cage with a King Cobra.

Definately good advice. Also , just don't show it off to everyone. If people don't know you have it then they can't steal it. Good advice about an attack dog though :p, just not good for dorm life but could be ok if you lived in an apartment. If you live in an apartment wouldn't an alarm system help (that is if the local cops are worth a damn)

Thanks

IF the chances of theft are going to be extremely high, why not just got CRT....

I know you have a LITTLE extra space...

Have it inside a glass case on your desk along with a rattlesnake or a big hairy tarantula.

Find an old (huge) 21"+ CRT that no longer works. Take the guts out and fasten your LCD to the front. Once you're happy with this, remove your TFT and fill the empty space inside the CRT shell with sacks of lead shot. This will weigh 200+ pounds easy. Make sure your TFT is fastened well. You may want to put up a webcam as well. If someone actually does try to steal it, the footage would be a riot!

Another suggestion would be to get one of those serial number stickers and apply it conspicuously to the unit, and have the number registered with the local campus police. A good quality cable lock wrapped around the base and fastened to some furniture should slow thieves down enough to be a deterrent. (sp?)

...Just make sure you don't chain it to a table or chair leg!

I found this out the hardway!

Isn't putting it in the hall is ASKING for it to get tripped on? Someone probably tripped on it, broke it, then cleaned it up for you. You should thank this "theif" :D
