Which alternate universe did you crawl out of?

new to the internet?

aol didn't buy google, its a business deal, making money running a web site may be novel, but google does it anyway

google is the best search engine

happy puppie, how the heck do ya post that much? jc your the only one who's been around here (in this thread) longer than i have. i still don't like google anymore. are we being overun by kids and teenagers? sorry just an old guys opinion. jer

Google. At one point, i'd have said Northern Lights, any Inktomi powered engine, AllTheWeb, or Teoma might have stood a chance, but not anymore.

well i guess i'll just have to take it for now. anybody know how to build a search engine?? i can't even get my site to show up in one. it must be me.

I used to use Infoseek (remember that?!?), AltaVista, then Yahoo.....but Google's page loads fastest (no clutter), and really finds the stuff....and less paid-for results.

Just this old guy's opinion 😉

hell you can try that on yahoo.com or smarter.com they agree

Maybe that's because Yahoo is a portal site, not a true search engine, and uses Google as its web search engine. Ditto with MSN, askjeeves, and lots of other sites. Yahoo used to use the Inktomi search engine previously, but uses Google now.

Really the only good way to get your site to show up in search engines is to have people put links to your site on theirs. That's the only way that the search engines can find you and gauge your popularity (only Google really does sorting by popularity). As for building a search engine, much too complicated a thing; the creators of Google only created a shell of what it is now during their graduate years of college, and that was...perhaps 4-5 years ago? Whatever it was, much, much too hard.
