What's the best S939 motherboard for an Opteron 144?

Quite a few boards can do 300MHz HTT. My mATX Biostar Tforce can do it. Look for DFI boards, or any of the "name brand" NForce 4/Ultra/SLI chipset boards such as ones from Asus, Abit, MSI, EPoX, etc. Ones that don't do as well are Foxconn, ASRock (w/o mods), boards using most other chipsets. Some ATI chipset boards do well too, but those may be even more rare.

exactly my thoughts, end of discussion,lol.

The only suggestions are DFI (any NF4 as stated above) my only other suggestion would be the Asus A8N sli-premium or the A8N32 SLi I think it is. can get all of these for relatively cheap and I think you can still find them around

Anymore I wouldn't touch a DFI board with a 10ft pole. Many many peoples had a very hard time getting mem stable with them and all those mem options make it even harder like 10,000 permutations. Change one setting and OC goes all to hell and you wonder what it was.. Plus it runs too hot in PWM area. If you have any kind of micron DDR stay far far away. I like that mATX Biostar Tforce Zap suggested or Asus, Abit, MSI, EPoX NF4 boards. From AMD/ATI the Asus A8R32-MVP is super high clocker.

If you are on a tight budget you could go for the board i have AsRock 939Dual-Sata2. Generaly are nice overclockers and cost next to nothing. Then agai the biggest problem with these boards is that you can only give 1.45v to a single core or 1.40v to a dual core and with memory you have two options 2.5v or 2.7v. Though it is easy to do a processor vmod on this board. If not on a budget go for either DFI, Abit or Asus, cant go wrong with those.

My asus A8R32-MVP is at 312MHz right now. Had it up to 334MHz before.

I might look at geting one of those boards then, need a board that can deliver at least 333Mhz at 100% stable for me to be happy.

Just FYI the Ultra-D, SLI-D and SLI-DR are pretty much the same boards. The Expert and Venus are the same (Venus is "special edition" version of Expert).

The Expert/Venus resolved those PWM heat issues. For memory, I haven't had a problem (had an Ultra-D, now have an Expert). I basically just leave the 10,000 permutations alone and only set the basic ones of MHz and CAS. Zero problems. When I first got my Ultra-D I played around with settings and sometimes changing one innocuous looking setting would cause no POST.

Not for socket 939, but I've used some older AOpen boards. They worked fine but weren't super exciting for overclocking.
