Umm, RC planes arn't cheap. I don't know the answer, but some info you might want to supply (in origianl post via edit) is:
1) Just the plane or plane and controller
2) budget
3) How experienced is this kid with RC planes?
Maybe EBay would work for this?
At Ebay go to:
Toys and Hobbies -> Radio Control
From there, you can refine the esearch on the left to only include airplanes.
I was kinda surprised. I was expecting to see $500+ Looks like prices arn't that bad.
EDIT: Might start an RC boat thread. I've alays wanted one but info is hard to come by as it is not a very common hobby.

See my post. What you're lookin for is a park flyer.

Yep, park flyer. You can get a decent one for a hundred bucks, and he won't have to spend weeks assembling it. I'm sitting about six inches from a Firebird Commander. It's been crashed into trees several times (spent a month in the top of a huge Douglas fir this summer) and is still working just fine.

Looks like a good basic plane. 3 channel, Futaba parts. Just make sure he knows not to fly it in the wind. Electric park flyers are very light.
