Can someone recommend a good PCI modem for XP. I recently upgraded to an Epox 4BDA+ which only has PCI slots. Ive tried the USR Pro model, ZOOM 3025 and that cheap Sterling that Staples were practically giving away.

I get some decent connections, but it just seems like I'm really bogging down and get really lousy pings when gaming.

I really miss my Supra Express ISA:(

Thanks!!

I have used some intel pci hardware modems in the past and they always worked great. Good luck.

BTW: The modems were based on the Intel HAM setup. Hope this helps :D

There was a reason why they were practically giving that modem away ;)

After trying 3 different modems 1luckymf, it may be possible that the bottle-neck is somewhere else in your system

Thanks for the input guys!!

Can you give me some ideas where to start and troubleshoot this thing. Ive also tried some of those internet boost programs. Nothing seems to work.

Would an exterior hardware modem be a possible alternative?

Thanks Again !!!

US Robotics hardware pci modem (not win modem) worked great for me untill it got fried in a lighting storm. There was no bogging down at all. It was kind of expensive though at $100.

I also recently lost my 3Com/USB modem in a lightning storm.
It was external though.
I'm now using Lucent modems on both my primary and secondary
PCs. Get consistant 48K+ connections.....

Another vote for the Lucent LT WINMODEM. XP already has the drivers. I got one for $15 shipped. Go to price watch and search for LUCENT - there are three places with one for $15.00.

Try an get a V92 modem....they tend to have better XP support.

The last system running XP that had an Intel HAM modem that I encountered would not shut down with the modem in there....but it was a V90 one, maybe their V92 version.
