What's the best P4 mobo right now?

Thanks. Good guess... 🙂

What do you guys think about Rambus & P4? The Asus P4T533-C was recommended to me as being even better than the B & S boards. That one takes PC1066 rimms and supports the 533Mhz bus. Any thoughts on Rambus in general? I'm a little hesitant about it to be honest.

If you're looking for a full featured board with all the bells and whistles I would go for the Gigabyte GA-8IEXP. The suite of features is truly amazing.

Integrated NIC, onboard Creative sound, dual BIOS, firewire, USB 2.0, RAID, 6 PCI slots...it's got a lot to offer. The BIOS is very good for overclocking thanks to AGP and PCI locks. I set this one up for a friend, and for $130 it's a great value.

How stable is it though?

Rock solid so far. It is an Intel chipset after all 😉 On the AMD side Gigabyte has been know for making stable boards albeit with less that desirable overclocking options.

What would be the performance comparison between the following combo's, the price points for the two are not that different:

1) Asus - P4B533 / Intel P4 2.2ghz / 512mb PC2700 ram

and

2) Epox - AK5A2 & AMD XP-2200 (1.8ghz) / 512mb PC2700 ram

Gigabyte 8IHX... Assuming that 'best' was referring to performance/features you can't beat the cream of the I850E crop... Price arguements can be made in favor of ddr based boards, but the savings aren't *that* significant (assuming you are looking to build a high-end p4 box)... The only downside to running rambus is if you are planning on significant overclocks (significant>145fsb)...

My Asus P4S8X has been running for about a week. I really like this board - tons of features.
6 USB 2.0, 2 1394, 2 Serial ATA, 6 PCI, AGP 8x, onboard NIC (and sound), smart fans...

Though it's not really an overclocker's board (no AGP or PCI lock that I can see yet).

I would also recommend the Gigabyte GA-8IEXP. My friend just got it, and it has all the latest bells and whistles on it.

As for ram, I would recommend High Perf PC2100 Mushkin CL2. It's a very stable peice of ram at cl2, and would work great.

Get the i845G motherboards from Soltek or Gigabyte. Both are priced well and have nice features. I myself have the Gigagbyte GA-8IGX and it's great.

asus = overpriced.
I agree. Also I've seen many people having issues with the various 533 MHz FSB boards by Asus.

i am getting a P4 2.4 533fsb mobo combo, and the recommended mobo at the site is the ECS P4S5A-DX. the asus p4s533 is 70 bucks more. will i be ok with the ecs? whats the deal with those mobos?

I recently upgraded to Asus P4PE (hyperthreading, RAID, serial ATA, USB 2.0, Firewire, 10/100 LAN) with P4 2.53GHz. In my personal opinion this is board is one of the best P4 boards on the market right now, that's including features, 100% stability and Asus name. P4PE might cost a little more than P4B533, but it is definitely worth it.

i give my vote to asus p4pe . The price of the mobo is not bad and have tons of feature. Not sure how well it can overclock ........

Another vote for the P4PE. I think Anand got it to a 158 MHz.

Seems like a good board. Worth upgrading to from the P4B533? 🙂
