Maybe so, but it's been the most consistently stable brand I've ever found, and to me that's worth a little bit more. If you're looking for a budget board, then no, Asus is probably not the best choice, but his question was for the "best", not cheapest.Originally posted by: Celstar

follow up question: is it worth it?
What are some other alternatives?
Crucial, Corsair (maybe), Kingston. I personally am a big fan of Crucial.Originally posted by: IgoByte
Which memory, specifically, would you recommend with the Asus board?

If you're looking for a full featured board with all the bells and whistles I would go for the Gigabyte GA-8IEXP. The suite of features is truly amazing.
Integrated NIC, onboard Creative sound, dual BIOS, firewire, USB 2.0, RAID, 6 PCI slots...it's got a lot to offer. The BIOS is very good for overclocking thanks to AGP and PCI locks. I set this one up for a friend, and for $130 it's a great value.

The Asus P4b533-V is the i845G version. I have yet to try that board, so I'm not going to outright recommend it.
The EPoX 4G4A+ is a nice board, however I had some memory issues with it (see this thread.) To this day I have no idea why I had those problems, so I can't put that board in the same class as the P4B533.
