My old ASUS K7M just die last week :(
I need to buy new MB for my old AMD Athlon 650 Mhz Slot A.
Any suggestion what should I get?
I'm looking for MB that have specs close to K7M such as 2 or 4 USB, 5 PCI and at least 3 slot for memory.

If possible please put where I can buy the MB.

Thanks.

My friend still runs his Asus K7V but I think the AMD 750 chipsets are better than the KX133.. I'd do some research, find some old reviews and see what's good. I'd personally recommend getting another K7M cause boards shouldn't just die, I bet your replacement would work fine for much time to come.

I'd recommend an MSI 6167. That board treated me well. A friend still has it running with a 550MHz Athlon in it.

That's probably the best AMD750 board other than the K7M.
either that or the K7M are probably the best ones you can get. bottom line.

Its also know as the MSi K7Pro . I have one and it runs folding@home 24/7. I reboot every 48 hours just to make sure. Great, stable, high performing board. [b}Stay away from anything based on the kx133! [/b] .

That might be the case, but he would also have to shell out ~ 70.00 more. percel, Why not buy another K7M if you can find it?

<< The Final Decision

The FIC SD-11 is a very interesting motherboard for a number of reasons. Frankly, it was originally just an engineering sample that was never meant for public consumption. In order to get something out quickly, FIC went ahead and let the SD-11 go to market. After a few revisions, now up to 1.8, all the kinks seem to be worked out.

As such, the SD-11 is a reasonable motherboard choice for an Athlon system. It's wide availability could make it the only choice for many users. If that's the case, the SD-11 will serve you well. Otherwise the fact is that it does very little to differentiate itself from other Athlon boards and has a couple of short comings that could pose major problems for some users.

I can recommend the AOpen AK72 kx133 mobo. It's not the fastest slot-a mobo, but extremely stable!

I had (actually still do have, just not here) an SD-11 since the athlons were first released. Overall the board is decent, has a few quirks, isn't the fastest, and definately isn't feature packed. Just a basic, functional board. If you're looking for the fastest board, look in the direction of the Abit KA7-100, yes its a kx133, but its still great.

Rundown:
Features, overclocking, speed: KA7-100
Basic, mostly non-via: SD-11

The reason I am against the kx133 boards is my KA7-100 board died after 6 months (and I mean it just...err DIED). It had a very funky agp controller that required a profound knowledge of the hex-number system to get newer( at the time) videocards such as the ATI Radeon and Geforce 2 GTS to function without locking up your system.

That board was the biggest POS I ever owned and for that reason it will be a long time before I purchase Abit again. Also I am not the only one to have my board seize up and die. Great features, good overclocking options, but just an overall $200 POS.

Youll probably have a hard time finding a 6167, it was replaced by the K7 Pro.....ive got the K7 Pro but had both, since my 6167's AGP slot died and i got a K7 Pro as a replacement....both excellent boards, very stable.

I know it's hard to find Slot A Motherboard.

If I want to buy MB combos, which AMD I want to buy?

I still want to use my SDRAM DIMM from my old system.
and I need at least 5 PCI slot in the MB.

my budget around $100 - $150.

the ECS K7S5A is a great choice. stable, cheap, fast, and it was slots for both SDR and DDR ram, meaning you can upgrade the ram to DDR at some future date and get a performance boost.

i'd grab the SD-11....good board, and u don't wanna dish out much money for keeping that relatively older system alive...

i know, i still have my K7M and Athlon 700

wait, this could be an opportunity to sell my K7M...nah, still suits me well...

Hmm... I have a KA7 and it quit on me one day scr3wing me over, later moved on to Socket. But one day I decided to trouble shoot it and it started to work all of a sudden again. I wonder if there is something fishy with some of them.

Get a duron 1.0 and any socket A board. You'll be much better off. Even though the duron has less cache, it's MUCH faster.
