Well, a while ago(year or so?) someone made a similar thread (searched) but never actually put up a poll, so lets end this once and for all. What is the best Metallica album?

It's splitting hairs between ....Justice and Master. ....Justice was an incredibly dark album because they were dealing with the loss of Cliff and has a feel like no other.

But Master has some of the best guitar work of any metal album in the 80's and has that "Cliff" vibe that nothing after him could match.

Tough call....depends on the mood. Overall I'd say I listen to Justice more than any others.

I only learned of them in '90 with TBA but after all these years I'd vote MOP.

People rag on them for declining over the years but if you think about it, they really explored everything... Nearly every album is purposely different.

The lack of audible bass in Justice really irks me but it is still better than every album that followed it.

I voted for Master of Puppets

I vote the Black Album....I love every song on that album. I bought the tape, then splurged for the CD as soon as I bought a CD player.

Master of Puppets is a second for me...the guitar work in Welcome Home (Sanitarium) is simply awesome with the harmonics.

I voted Kill 'em All but honestly enjoy all of them through Justice pretty much evenly. Ride the Lightning is probably the weakest of the first 4.

Welcome Home and Disposable Heros are almost strong enough on their own for me to vote for MoP...but there's just something about Justice that I love...even with the lack of bass track. 😛

...And Justice for All

I was 10, maybe 11 (probably not yet). 6th grade (yup, double promoted), so it was like 1990 maybe - my friends told me how awesome it was. I found a way to buy the tape. $8 was a lot for a 6th grader in the early 90's.

I had headphones, a walkman, and a boombox with a headphone jack. It was the most life-changing experience since I discovered fapping a year or so prior. It remains the day I think I actually lost my innocence. I went from boy to man midway through Shortest Straw.

I hadn't ever really listened, that is **actually listened*** to metal before. This was the album that set up a lifetime lifestyle choice. I would be a metalhead. I would forever rebel against the hip-hop and r&b my brother and sister so sheepishly chose.

Then they sold the fuck out on the very next album.

Kill 'em All by a nose; I find myself listening to Kill 'em All more often, but I think Ride The Lightning is actually the better album, I just find Kill 'em All to be more fun and it still had Dave's stamp on it, which I really like.

Of course Metallica disbanded after Master Of Puppets, so I'm not sure what band made all of those other albums you are listing in the poll. :hmm:

Edit: funnily enough some of my favourite Metallica tunes are certain cover on the original Garage Inc. (Am I Evil, Crash Course, etc.). I probably listen to this stuff even more than Ride The Lightning.

Breadfan is probably mostest favorite Metallica song. I would say that Garage Days is actually my favorite album by them...but it's not really fair since a lot of it is covers.

Tough for me to choose between Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets. I like ..And Justice for All, Reload, and The Black Album a lot as well, just in a different way than the first three.

Yeah it's weird how well they do covers, honestly some of their best stuff.
