Hey guys,

I am looking for a 'Decent' PS. I typically use Antec cases and Antec PS's, but in this case I wanted to put together a 'cheaper' unit then I normally do. I have seen a 'COOLMAX CX-400B' for about $38 shipped at Newegg, but I figured that I would ask here first. I am sorry that I didn't grab one of those SuperFlowers from Directron a while back. I also just missed a posting of about 4 Power Supplies about a week ago here. It seems the deals are gone.

Let me know what you guys think.

-Thanks

**EDIT**: It seems that this COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power RS-430 one is still available for about $35 shipped.

And this Silent TT-420SS 420W is about $39 at Directron.

Fortron/Sparkle power supplies are solid units that are pretty inexpensive.

Nice heavy units that will do just as nicely as Antecs, for less money, and overall quality that will outperform most/all 'generic' units bundled with most cases nowadays.

You didn't mention what sort of build this unit's going to be going in, but in general, if it's anything that's not using the latest and greatest, even the 300w units from Fortron or Sparkle (rebranded Fortron units, actually) ought to have few problems powering them.

I use X-Case PSUs for the people I build. Their 550w one has 26a on the 12 volt rail and hasn't failed me yet...if you want to go cheap and powerful go with them. I have a Forton Blue Storm in my comp can't go wrong with that but that's considerably more expensive...

get one of the fortron's with a 120mm fan that slows down based on temp. i do not have time to look up the model number, but i paid $27 for one about a year ago. no problems, relatively quiet.

The best deals going on good power supplies:

Cooler Master eXtreme Power ATX12V 430W PSU - $33.50 free ship
+3.3V@25A, +5V@32A, +12V@19A
MAX CONTINUOUS TOTAL OUTPUT : 400W
MTBF > 100,000 Hrs @ full-load / 25 Degree C

Rosewill RV450 ATX12V 450W - [$29.50 free ship]
+3.3V@30A, +5V@45A, +12V@22A

THERMALTAKE Silent PurePower TT-420AD(DUAL FAN) ATX12V 420W - [$36.50 free ship]
+3.3V@30A; +5V@40A; +12V@18A

The prices for Thermaltake and Rosewill are in brackets because that is the sale price you can routinely find them selling for, but currently they are normal price. Chiefvalue puts one or more of these models on sale every week or so.

In my opinion this is the best one for the buck.

I know first hand, I installed it a few weeks ago or so in my main gaming machine here. Works great, especially with the 120mm fan, and it's pretty quiet I think.

sparkle is a good cheaper brand. i've also used the thermaltake in a few builds withouth problems.

You may have had your bad experiences, but I gave that advice based on my experience with the power supply. I've even had excellent experience with lesser-known power supplies, but the powmax I linked to is the best cheap one you can get in my opinion.
