heh what's that got to do with saying a particular minivan looks stylish for a change? And why are you spelling it azn?

Because just about every single minivan I see is piloted by some asian woman running on autopilot. Only it's the sort of pilot that goes 10 mph...always.

Wow... suburbia is filled with white soccer moms in minivans. Right out the window this lady in her Sienna... she's got 3 kids who play. Get out more.

eh.

every large american suv i see is driven by a white guy that thinks hes the shit but uses the size of the vehicle to make up for the size of his cock

Every riced out accord I see is driven by some wannabe gangsta azn guy with a fartcan muffler and some sort of mismatched color scheme, your point?

not in NYC, they're mostly spics or blacks. the asians have moved up or decide to leave their car stock.

Does it HAVE to a sliding door? If not, take a serious look at the Mazda CX-9. I purchased one for my wife as an X-mas present and it's a fantastic car. It is a crossover vehicle and has a usable 3rd row of seats. The great thing is that it handles more like a car than an SUV and has decent power (275hp of zoom zoom!).

Hispanics or blacks here too. I think the "azn's" just want to stay away from that stereotype.

It depends where you are really, in irvine most asians people my age sport the G35/3series/S2k/M3/IS/etc. The ones that are done are pretty tasteful, a friend of mine has a civic hatch with a type-R motor in it, it runs low 13's or something ridiculous like that.

In the less affluent areas however its mismatched panels, etc whatever but thats to be expected anyway

This!

Not that. As mentioned, wagons don't have sliding doors which is a majority of their added utility.

Well personally I would never ever ever purchase a mini van so the next closest car like option is a wagon which I think is plenty serviceable especially if you get a full size one like the A6 avant, allroad, or V70.

^ sliding doors are a must if you're getting a vehicle for those purposes. Right now I park in the back of the lot because I have 2 infant carriers that need to go in and out everywhere we go (like Target yesterday). Not really enough space for doors to swing that open if there are cars on either side. I live with it (and park in the back like I said) but I'm not getting a wagon that won't help the cause if I set out for it.

As well as a majority of their fugliness. I just do like rh71 and park my truck as far back as I need to so I don't have cars on both sides.

Poor guy. I dread the day I start this thread.

lol I still have my car, it would be for the wife (if we do get another car) who insists on the flexibility of a minivan (not that I disagree - a big 3rd row comes in very handy for us). I'll be damned if she makes me drive it... I drive my dad's on occasion, enough to know I don't feel like going backwards. /snobbery. Seating 7 or 8 w/ a bunch of crap in the back is about the only benefit in my eyes.

Anyway, I started this thread only because I actually saw the Mazda 5 parked on the street and said whoa, what is that?

well the minivan can carry more things than a SUV, and MUCH more than any crossover or "wagon".

i remember being able to put a refrigerator into my 91 Previa. its great when the cargo and seating area can be completely flat.
it's harder to put heavy stuff into a SUV because their tail gate clearance is higher and their tails are more rounded then the rectangular minivans.

All minivans are ugly.

We just bought a Mazda MPV and it's not as ugly as most and has a great bang for the buck factor, 05-06 are the best years because they had a few quirks in previous years. The MPV is not as big as some but it's bigger than just about any car and it handles well (for a minivan) and it has the attention to detail that you come to expect from imports.

you might as well have got a SUV. minivans are big so kids can move freely and not feel constricted to their seat or trapped in a small area.

Minivans are still one of the most useful, high utility vehicles on the market.

the guy asked for "what's the best looking minivan that doesn't suck? " compared to what the odyssey offers, almost all the minivans mentioned in this thread suck..

the sienna is a close call, though the honda is better by far. theres just no competition on the market for it right now

Depends on what your criteria are. Right now I could walk away with a Kia Sedona for like $18,000. If I go a year or two old (which is still the latest gen) I could nab one for around $13,000 or so and it'd have less than 20,000 miles on it.

I'd be looking at a 4+ year old Honda/Toyota with at least 3x-4x the miles on it for that same price.

When I have a mortgage, a $1200 a month daycare bill, and all the other costs associated with having a family there's a certain number of compromises I'm willing to make. "Best" for some is the most bells and whistles and a badge. For others it's features for the $$.

The Oddy is not a poster child for Honda's reliablility. Toyota is taking a few on the chin lately with their quality studies as of late too.

but those are your personal problems. we're not here to suit your individual needs, you'd need a personal accountant to tell those payment "problems" to. we're here to make suggestions on cars and to discuss them. we're not here to tell you what car you should get when you have a $300 "childcare" payment.

i know it must hurt you to hear that honda is not the best for everyone, but to some people value matters. for him the honda is not the "best minivan" regardless of what you think his problems are.

I don't even know why I respond to this guy. But yeh, my "problems" are reality for thousands of families. Maybe when he transitions from his pampers pull ups to big boy undies and has a family he'll understand. "Best" is an absolutely relative term.

The guy is a troll and a douche. Best to ignore him.

Honda Odyssey is the best.
And don't laugh, Dodge Caravans (or whatever they call them) are actually really good. It's one of the few things Chrysler gets right.

(NAV+rear entertainment are musts)

Rear entertainment is definitely a must, I agree. While it can be added in the aftermarket, I like the cleanliness of a factory DVD system, and the aftermarket solutions typically don't save much (speaking about ceiling mounted units here). As for NAV, I like add-on units better. You can transfer a Garmin or Tom-Tom between vehicles easily, and it costs so much less than the factory NAV package.

I have yet to meet anyone in the field of early childhood development who recommends that young children watch more TV. In fact, many of them are cautioning against the new wave of rear entertainment systems because they just create yet another area where parents plop the kids in front of a video screen rather than interacting with them.

Personally, I see no use for in-car DVD systems.

ZV

i don't either, i'd rather have my kid (depending on age) read a book, do their HW, or if they're a bit older look out the windows to learn the roads, and view the scenery.

Have you tried to read in a moving car? with all the bouncing and movement, it's near impossible and likely to cause headaches and nausea, not to mention eye strain. generally not a good idea if you don't want vomit flying inside you car. and doing HW in a moving car isn't a good idea for good grades.

I always read in the car when I was a kid. Once you get on the highway, everything is fine. If kids get bored with around the town driving and need constant DVD or video gaming entertainment in the car, something is really wrong.
